2. Test the equipment and software you’ll be using before your interview, and enlist a friend to make sure you can be heard and you don’t run into any hiccups during your video call.

3. Set up your shot in a well-lit, distraction-free location, and pay attention to what is in the background. Position yourself so you’re looking into your camera not up or off to the side.

4. Put some thought into your appearance. Dress as you would for an in-person interview, but minimize reflective jewelry—and yes, you have to wear pants.

5. Start your video interview off right by “showing up” a few minutes early, greeting your interviewer, and making sure you can hear and see each other.

6. Use non-verbal cues to show that you’re engaged in the conversation and to signal when you’re done speaking.
