NASA, Sierra Space, and ILC Dover just exploded Sierra Space's inflatable space habitat. It’s not a bad thing, though, as the burst test provides useful information about how much pressure the habitat can handle and helps prove that the habitat meets safety requirements.

With the International Space Station set to retire around 2030, NASA has been searching for replacements.

The inflatable module is designed to serve as a habitable space for astronauts in orbit. Sierra Space says the inflatable habitat can be packed into a rocket and inflated ‘to the size of a three-story apartment building.’

‘It can comfortably sleep four astronauts, with additional room for science experiments, exercise equipment, a medical center and Astro Garden system,’ Sierra Space says. #WatchThis
