Exposing The Truth About The BEST BUDGET Irons YOU CAN BUY!?

This is the truth about budget irons. Yes, they're cheaper. But do they really live up to the premium brands of the world. Are they even comparable and should budget irons be going in your bag for 2024? Today I look at two of the best budget irons of 2024 and give my thoughts on if they represent value for money and how they stack up against other premium golf irons.

I started building clubs as weekend hobbyist back in the 90s and there used to be a lot of options if you wanted to get custom made clubs. What surprises me about the clubs available today is how many are forged. Forged heads used to be reserved for blades and better players irons and they used to cost 2 or 3 times as much as cast club heads. You can now buy brand names like MacGregor and get just the iron heads only and build them yourself.

Would not be a good Monday morning in the US without a JR YouTube video with my coffee.

Takomos are more expensive. Touras built and shipped all in $700. Takomo, with tax and shipping all in $750. I guess this is basically the same but thought i'd point that out. They are also very different companies. Takomo is price focused above all else, while Toura Golf is a high-end small batch/artisan operation. Toura also offers all of their clubs in blank versions and will even custom laser your name on a set if you ask really nicely (it worked for me anyways). Toura also has higher end irons Takomo cant compete with. You could get a Kyoei forged set with your name on them from Toura for under $1000 (so basically $1000 less than from Kyoei or Miura - which are all made in the same city from the exact same steel by the same workers who were all trained at Kyoei - including Miura himself). This is nothing like what Takomo is going after with offering the best forging they can for the least amount they can to try and take on the big OEMs directly (but obviously less craftsman ship to keep cost down). I love this about Takomo and I think they are getting noticed for all the right reasons. long story short, different brands to their core, but I love seeing both get some well deserved love. Nice one guys.

From the website, the Toura have 2° stronger lofts... As for the Takomo, I've compared my 301s head to head (on the same shafts) against a set of Mizuno MP5 and I could see any performance difference (same loft, same shaft, same swingweight... same ball flight!) but the feel was slightly different, and I slightly preferred the one on the Takomo, which is nice since they're mine and the Mizunos belonged to my club pro 🤣.

Playing the TM Stealths now. Looking at going to a P790 since I’ve been playing more. Is it better to go with a used 2019 P790 set or something in the Takomo family? Probably 101 or 101t. Thanks.

I'd rather just buy new old stock name brands... I got my JPX919 Tour irons 2 years ago (so already the previous model at the time) brand new in the plastic for $600

The Takomo irons are the better value for the money for me also the shaft range on the Takomo is better in that one can go from regular flex to x still. The Toura only come stiff to x stiff.

Here is the difference for me though. I just ordered a set of Mizuno JPX 923's, custom fit, with custom shafts, custom jumbo grips, for $980 after tax. I am +.5", 3 degrees upright. That makes a HUGE difference for me vs playing with a standard set. I am sure these are probably just as good as a lot of the big brands. But if I compare the Toura to the Mizunos, realistically, after tax I am basically paying $200 more for a name brand, custom fit iron that has been proven from thousands upon thousand of reviews and golfers on the golf course. Its just too close in price for me not to get the premium brand. Now when you considered the Takomo 101's at $489, that starts to be a little more tempting. But even then, if I am spending that money anyway I would just rather put that money back, save a little more, and have my own custom set
