Is there a rule of thumb for weight of jig head/length of bait? I have some big walleye 1/4 oz and some powerbait shad in sizes from 4 in to 6 in

I tried everything, chatterbait to plain hooks etc feel you want us to use hook upside down.
I'm looking for best rigging without losing bite gap. This is a thick bait.
