Paroled prisoners' receive surprise visit from acting national commissioner

Former prisoners who were released on parole were taken by surprised when prison officials paid them an unannounced visit in Limpopo. The authorities wanted to assess if they were complying with their parole conditions.
Acting National Commissioner of Correctional Services Makgothi Thobakgale and his entourage led the special monitoring exercise in Moletji and Seshego, outside Polokwane.

Why is this even news ? Should that be a norm that there are parole officers who now and again visit the paroled people and check on them.

This is just stupid to make this even news, it shows how South Africa has deteriorated to accepting incompetence and mediocre as part of our lives.
