@rhodeswood5513. Thank you for this video sir. Just last week my wife bought a new pair of training shoes for her visits to the gym. I stripped out the laces - which had been put in “criss - cross”/ crossover style, and re - laced them as per your video here. She had to agree that they look much better this way! Many thanks Jeremy. Stay safe and well.

That's how my dad was shown how to lace his shoes in the RAF and of course it's how he taught me as a child. As a side issue, waistcoats. I love them and sense a resurgence but worn in a casual way without a jacket (I live in southern Spain) any thoughts, any glorious examples.

That is the way my Father taught me to lace up a shoe; always secure.

When I worked in a department store footwear department, that’s how I always did the laces for the display shoes. It’s also how I do my own laces on every pair of shoes I own.

I wish I lived closer to Harrogate to visit your shop as it looks so stylish! I used this pattern of lacing for many years not knowing anything else until I bought my first Church's shoes and changed to their pattern as they say it spreads the pulling load more evenly and thus prevents ripples; I suppose it comes down to personal choice.

Checked several years ago and found there were over 500 ways to lace shoes even came up. With one for trainers so they can be fully tightened. Australian military used a method on GP boots knot one end start at the little toe side over next hole same side over next hole other side till done easy to pull tight quickly tie off wrap the tail around the boot a few times, the end simply tucked under 2x. Only thing better is speed lace eyes.

That's how I was taught and how I would still do it for smart shoes.

I lace up this way except that I don't go across with the long length; I run it up the same side, which is neater. Is there a reason for going across the shoe in this way?

Classic bar lacing for shoes.
However for boots I use ladder lacing
Looks more classy.
