Its the only life for me😁. I was born on my parents sailboat grew up on that boat home schooled by my mom went to college got my degree in mechanical engineering bought my Columbia 43 and continue living my life aboard. My parents are gone now but I'm keeping their legacy alive😊. If youve never sailed i highly highly recommend it. Nothing like it😁⛵🐕🐕😉

Reefed one is the smallest (small is generally slow) but well-controlled and as the result it is the fastest.

The one ragging his jib is likely the least experienced in the bunch. But he is out there! Doesn't mean he is reckless. Whoever made thay comment doesn't sail, has never learned, will never learn and has nothing better to do than make click bait. You should try sailing. You might have a more fulfilling life!

Look at the leeway for the over canvassed boats! Great educational video demonstrating the impact of excessive heel.

Classic example of over clothing. Sailboats become less effective heeled over past 25 degrees. Breaks parts, lowers performance. I used to do it all the time till I learned better.

Don't see a hazard. Either the sheet came off the tack, or he's having a hard time furling to reduce the size of the jib. I'd rather reef the main again if it's possible.

If you ain’t rubbing, you ain’t racing.

I spent 40 years crewing on a "Triton" on the Chesapeake Bay. Windy days are the best. I loved it when the side of the boat became the bottom of the boat.

With more sail ahead of the keel than behind you have an unstable configuration that can over power the rudder with a single gust and swing the boat sideway to the wind in an instant. It happened on my neighbor's 34 ft boat and we were left with the sail ripped of and healed over with the mast bouncing off the water until he could start the engine.

sailboat racing is nothing but reckless maneuvers lol.

On my boat, if the main is not let off it will auto tack in a gust like that. So only trusted crew trim the mainsail.

A beach cat would smoke by these sailboats. The first boat has his act together.

Best way to wreck a sail is the flapping we see here. A sail can last for years, but not this way. It is worn out in no time. Take is down!

If you don't have the traveler and cars set properly that can make life tough. The jib flogger looks like they maybe are trying to furl it a bit, all of them have the mains reefed. Could be the ones in the background are in a bigger gust closer to shore? Hard to get the whole picture here.

Where's the reckless maneuver? Windward boat is a dit out of control.
rickdoehler
For a start they got too much sail up for that wind.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.
unstablenester
The jib is flapping behind the other boat. It just looks like it's close because of the zoom lens. Click bait crap.
