Actual conversation I endured last night - I changed the names.

*my dads sister calls - we hear that someone has gotten sick
*
Mum: What happened
?
Dad: Nick got the virus
Mum: Which Nick?
Dad: What you mean which Nick? Which Nick. Which Nick. Which Nick is in Italy
? You stupid.
Me: umm... didn’t Nick in Italy die?
Dad: This is another one.
This one is from the other village.
Mum: Oh, okay
...
Dad: How can you say you’ve met him, you never met him, he’s in another town, how did you meet him?
Mum: I... didn’t say I met him, I asked who is he...
*few minutes of this back and forth with no identification of who we are talking about, just a lot of mentions of farms and about the dead Nick*
Me (Who has become the master of decoding the rambling): Wait, didn't we meet him when we went to Italy last time? Tall guy, bald, looks Aussie even though he’s not, was using the BBQ at the picnic when we went to that ones farm with the dead Nick as well. I remember there was two Nicks there?
Dad: Yeah him . That's the one. He got sick.
Dad to mum : And you said you didn’t know him
Mum: *stares at me*
Me: *already texting my entire family what just happened*

Always important to throw in the useless piece of information. My dad's line was "He used to work with me in da bakery back in da 70s..."

OMG! It is exactly like that. Whatever the elders in my family say I just accept, because it’s impossible to understand the family connections anyway 🤣

this brings back memories of meeting my husband's relatives in a little village in Portugal... everyone tried to explain to him how they were related... and it was pretty much like that!

Just in time for Christmas at Nonna's, pretty much any story starts with breaking down the who's-who and the family tree. "Not Jake the butcher, Jake the Hairdresser, married to Flavia, she works in the deli..."
