I just downloaded an app on my iPhone called pantry check. You can scan your food and add the expiration dates. Great way to keep track of your supply!!

Deep freezer is a great idea! Freezer tip: get those plastic reusable grocery bags with handles (like the ones for $.88 - $1.00 from Walmart and aldi) and a pair of cheap stretchy winter gloves. Place like items in each bag (frozen vegetables in one, chicken in one, beef, pork, etc). Easier to pull out the bags than trying to dig through the stuff that gets buried in the bottom of the freezer. It keeps it semi-organized. The gloves just keep your hands from freezing. Also keep an empty bag by your freezer to bring stuff into the kitchen.

Those are best bye dates not expiration dates. Most things are still good long after the best bye dates.

South Georgia here and I will only use salt, butter and possibly cheese in my grits. I am on your husband's side on this one. 😆

You and Don have a great channel. It has really helped me out to get back on tack where I used to be. I had gotten sick and finally getting back to normal. The two of you are great!

Hi Pegi And Don,
I'm an English Nanny living in Germany and
I've been prepping since the beginning of the year and have really watched a lot of prepping videos etc and learned a lot myself and from my dad too. When you store your foods, don't forget to add in an oxygen absorber to each bag, container or jar(dried foods). You can buy them cheaply enough from Amazon. Food lasts a lot longer and stops the foodstuffs from mould etc. Also, stock up on SALT. Every veteran pepper out there has a list of essentials that you need:
*Ghee, avocado oil, other oils
*Salt(flavour and preserving meats)
*Sugar (flavour enhancer and baking)
*Honey, maple syrup
*Pasta, potatoes, white rice, instant mash
*Dried milk/butter powders
*Dried herbs and spices
*Alcohol (fire starter, hand sanitizer,
antiseptic for wounds etc)
* Coffee, teas, hot chocolate powder etc
*Apple cider vinegar
*Canned meats/fish
*Beef jerky
*Multi-vitamins

Be safe and good luck to us all during these times. Big hugs, from Donna xx

Hey Family! Jersey here!! I love coffee too, before Sandy hit in 2012 I knew we would lose power so I purchased a metal percolator. We had coffee while the power was out for 3 days. My neighbors loved me!! We have a gas stove and water heater so we had hot water and lit the stove with a match. I also have 2 fireplaces that kept us warm. Girl, it was cold 🥶 after that storm! Best wishes and keep plugging on!

Oven canning is an excellent way to store flour. You can also freeze it for about 3 days then can it and vacuum seal it or put in mylar bags. It gives you a 30 year shelf life! Same with oats and pasta. For the sugar, put it in mylar bags. DO NOT oven can sugar. It will crystallize. You can oven can grits or freeze them, same as flour. You can also oven can crackers!

I’m a minister but run a trucking channel here but I as well as other Christians are having the urge to store as we sense more is coming....my people are from Oklahoma, Texas, & Louisiana...so yes I’ve done rice 🍚 milk & sugar...but we also do rice 🍚 butter & salt pepper & mix with eggs...storing your dry goods properly is critical...too avoid pest from hatching as well as keeping them out...I will post links to channels that publicly cover this...I’ve been doing private messages to my ministry group in the background & on Facebook on prepping & how to do it...pray you & your family are well the links I send are methods I grew up with as I come from a family of cooks...my grandparents owned one of the 1st soul food restaurants here in AZ so the methods work

Hi Peg&Don. You guys are on the right track! Glad Peg that you followed your gut on prepping. I've been prepping for 9 months an here are a few tips I've learned from great preppers. Before storing your flour put it in the freezer for 3-4 days to kill the microscopic Critters that are in flour. I put my grits & oatmeal in the freezer as well. Then bag them in either a airtight food container, mylar (on Amazon) bags or vacuum seal it. It will keep it fresh longer than just a regular Ziploc bag. If using a bucket, it has to be a food-grade container for safety of your food. I've done all three for my 25 lb bag of flour, sugar, oatmeal and beans. You can even freeze eggs. Here are really great video that helped me a lot have great tips. They will help you too. Simply Cherie - *The Provident Prepper - *Homestead Heart -Granny Karma Homestead - Frugal Fit Mom. I use salt and pepper in my grits as well as a little of sugar in the grits. When I don't want gritty grits I use alittle of the milk to make it smooth
