The 2022 Mercedes EQS 580 EV Is The Future of S Class Luxury

There are few vehicles as silky as a Mercedes S Class. Now the all-electric EQS 580 is here to challenge that smoothness. With a silent purpose-built EV architecture, acoustical glass and the most aerodynamic body in the business, this luxury sedan is whisper quiet. The 56-inch Hyperscreen and impressive ambient cabin lighting looks straight out of Star Trek. And with 516 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque, this dual motor all-wheel drive machine is powerful too. Does it reach the EPA rated range of 340 miles? How fast does it charge? Tom Voelk checks out a base Premium model to find out.

Fantastic review of a gorgeous vehicle (at least the interior in my opinion - exterior: meh). The amount of tech of the EQS scares me. I had a CLS for about a year and it was in the shop for about 7 months of my "ownership" experience due to tech issues and it didn't have nearly the tech of EQS.

No doubt about it Tom, the $100k vehicle club is a great place to be. Mercedes treats their customers with many choices - if you're in the club. If the EQS 580 doesn't wow the crowd, just pick up a traditional S class as the second, third or (you get the picture) car. Personally, I'll just watch the neighbors cruise silently by in their electric Mercedes. Excellent review, as always, Tom!

The navy blue exterior with the light interior and Yacht wood finishes is quite nautical.... Excellent work as always, Tom.

Thanks for the article about the orange peel. I'll have to adjust my perspective about paint when I next shop for a car.

Great review as always! Underwhelming design from the front. Rear passengers are better treated with climate controls and ventilated seats in a car 1/3 its price.

Great Review as allways. The exterior design might not appeal to everyone but the interior blew just about everybody out of the water. A dream machine

Great review, I like this channel. I am surprised the shape of this vehicle is not mentioned as an issue.

I think Mercedes has a great product. I am looking forward to the EQE 53AMG 4Matic+ version. Mercedes needs to price appropriately to be competitive with Tesla Model S LR. When Mercedes begins to "nickel and dime" you with ticky-tack options like no sunshade in the rear or rear passenger climate control systems...then it becomes apparent they are still following their ICE molds...

Thank you Tom, your great reviews always make me a more educated consumer. I'm looking forward to your review of the Lucid Air. Full disclosure, my order for the Air just became official so I will be canceling my EQS reservation. As a current S Class driver I love the comfort of the MB so I will be taking a step back in that regard, however, I look forward to the bi-directional charging offered by the Air. The EQS with bi-directional charging is only available in Japan. I believe by the end of the decade will have we will have many solar powered homes with battery storage so the grid is used only when needed. Add in bi-directional charging and you have home battery storage that you can also use to travel. Stay healthy and great work! It is appreciated.

Nobody ever talks about the mining of copper, lithium and other rare metals to build these electric machines or what to do with their toxic end life. Not so green it seems.

Saw the thumbnail and I took it for granted that it was some new Honda car so I read the title casually only to find out that it's in fact Mercedes-Benz's proud take on it's future premium class EVs. It was then I realised how futuristic Honda had been with it's civic designs lolz

I really like this vehicle! Super luxurious in design and imo better than a Tesla. BUT I think the Lucid Air is nicer than the Benz in a lot of aspects. Great review!!
