What's with the Book of Jubilees?

What's the deal with the book of Jubilees? Has it ever been part of Scripture? If you saw my chat with Sean Griffin on his YouTube channel, you noticed he bases many of his theological positions on the book of Jubilees. And you also noticed that I was largely unfamiliar with that book! So Sean inspired me to do some learning, and it turns out the book of Jubilees is a rewritten version of Genesis 1 through Exodus 14, where the author sort of recasts the narrative and revises and makes additions to the biblical text. It was originally written around 200 years before Jesus, however, it has never been accepted as part of the Jewish Scriptures because it contradicts the Torah in many places. This is why it's never been accepted as Scripture in the Christian faith, either; not by Catholics or Protestants, or Eastern Orthodox traditions. So while it's an interesting and valuable historical book, it's never been considered Scripture. And therefore, basing our theology on the book of Jubilees is just asking for trouble.

Here are some of the ways Jubilees contradicts the Torah:

According to Jubilees 37–38, after the death of Isaac, tensions between Jacob and Esau escalate, ultimately resulting in a battle between their descendants. In the Torah, the brothers part ways amicably after a peaceful reconciliation in Genesis 33.

Jubilees 2–3 teaches that the law existed in the Garden of Eden; the Torah teaches that it was not given until Sinai (Exod. 19).

Jubilees repeatedly mentions that the Law and various commandments were recorded on "heavenly tablets" (Jub. 3:30; 6:17; 15:25; 30:9-10). The Torah says the law was written on tablets of stone (Exod. 24:12; 31:18; 34:1; 34:4).

Jubilees suggests that sacrifices were practiced from the time of Adam; the Torah introduces sacrifices much later, with Noah and then in the Mosaic covenant.

Shalom,
Rob

When I deny a book that claims to have prophecy, like the Book of Mormon or the Quran, I can normally site at least 2-3 true reasons as to why and how it contradicts or teaches differently than the Scriptures we call 'cannon.' After realizing our own KJV Bible clearly had 14 additional books in it just a couple hundred years ago that were removed, and yet this seems to be dismissed and not mentioned. Furthermore, I'd have much to say but I would just lovingly advise all my brothers and sisters that when you want to deny a book that's claiming to have the words of the Most High written in them, please be able to clearly articulate how said book is teaching against the established word of God that you do currently hold to. Shalom brothers and sisters!

My R.L Solberg. This generation has woken up to these lies of bad doctrine that has been going on for a long, long time. We are hungry for the truth, seeking after the father for pure doctrine with our whole hearts and minds, as he commands from us! Do you know that communists have also historically persuaded the public from reading certain books? We are to be beareans and search the word for ourselves that it is true. I pray that the father softens your heart, brother.

No, my G, the Roman was known to be ruthless and terrifying. Imagine a Roman capture a Jew tortured him to tell what the Torah is and they modified that book. The ancient days is not what you think it is.

Chapter 1 verse 12. This is why the Pharisees said don't read this book. The Pharisees are who he's taking about here.

And I will send witnesses unto them, that I may witness against them, but they will not hear, and will slay the witnesses also, and they will persecute those who seek the law, and they will abrogate and change everything so as to work evil before My eyes.

Since it was found in the Dead Sea Scrolls you may have to revise the canonical view. Have you considered the possibility that all the other mentioned religions could be wrong or even counterfeit?

However, I have seen with the books they have pulled out that, although they say to contradict the bible and you see after reading it it doesn't at all. If you are able to seek, He will allow us to find in the purest of ones heart

Thank you for sharing your findings, I watched the discussion yall had and I think Shawn leans to much on the book of Jubilees. Also, it's a bit disturbing that he prefers solo scriptura approach over sola scriptura, it seems pious but it's really just arrogant, there have been faithful believer throughout church history who have agreed that sabbath keeping is not required, i.e. Ignatius in his Epistle to the Magnesians. I recall Chrysostom rebuking a brother for thinking his intellect was greater than the church being lead by the Lord.

I think it is and should be studied just like the rest of the hidden books it will give more insight to things!!! Just as the Jews did not accept Jesus as the son of God the also didn’t accept the books as part of the holy word and the Roman catholic church did not either!!! We need to know the truth the whole truth not just what they want us to know!!!!

What i find intriging about jubilees is that it mentions some things about babel.

Namely using fired birick not sun baked.

A physist and college students decided to test load bearing of it.

It was determined that if set in a pyramid structure.
Using the specs of the towers base.

Would give a tower that would cuase 02 deprivation at the top. 😅

I am encountering this pretty often now with people I talk to embracing Jubilees and Enoch. It would be great if there were sources out there that really did a deep dive on why Jubilees is not and should not be considered scripture. Many think that because it was found with the dead sea scrolls that it was considered scripture.

The book of jubilees can be tested it was mentioned by Joshua as the book of jasher .it was written by Moses, it incorporates all the feasts and all the Jubilee's that the Israelites and Hebrew people were supposed to perform and are still supposed to still be performing as are Christians, going forward instructed by Jesus the law was never to be changed Jesus came to fulfill it.

Rabbinic Judaism (previously called Pharisees) and Christianity rejected any outside books that instructed on the priesthood, angels mating with women (Genesis 6) and the 364 day calendar 🤔 Interestingly, many of these books were found at cumron with a group that calls themselves “the priests of the House of Zadok and their allies” - they never called themselves Essenes. As a matter of fact, the Essenes dwelt somewhere about 60 miles south of cumron in the mountains of engedi and had nothing to do with cumron. Rachel Elior, a Hebrew scholar and Dead Sea Scrolls scholar addresses the cumron community at length in her presentation at Chicago theological school. Look it up- it’s very interesting. We have inherited so many lies from men. Research it yourself and let god be true and all men liars!

So the European church said they don't accept it and no one questioned them on why yet the Ethiopian church, which is older than the European church accepts it and they are never mentioned.... interesting
