A short video demonstrating how Low Luck works in Axis and Allies, specifically in the Anniversary Edition. But, the overall mechanic is the same.

You can skip to 6:50 if you know how normal combat works

Thx for the explanation. I've heard it talked about, but not seen it in action.

This video demonstrates that there is a clear difference between 'Low Luck' and 'Actually Rolling'. With Low-Luck the Soviets are almost guaranteed either a close victory or close defeat, whereas Germany wins a middling Victory 7/10 times when you actually roll. I think playing without luck as a factor not only gives you differing (if not flawed) results, but also take some of the fun out of the game. I like the idea of using this method to try and predict the outcome of a battle, but in application it allows you to actually know how a battle will play out.

As Example, say the German player is attacking with 1 tank into a Soviet defense of 3 infantry. Who wins this battle? Most likely the Soviet player, but there is still a small chance that the German player will emerge victorious. With low luck the Soviet player wins 100% of the time.

Low Luck makes battles almost entirely dependent on averages, which in turn just makes for more average games. Without variance in a game, you are robbed of experiencing its range of possibilities: from heartbreaking defeat to impossible victory and everywhere in-between.

Before each battle players declare their choice for fixes odds or regular and must keep that for the rest of that battle.

Well done, Thank you. Clear explanation of the how and why.

Was waiting for a cut when you struggled getting that Russian defence roll into your hand 3:55

Nice video, ill try it. But tink dice is not the problem, they represent all the variables and problems of real life combat. In A&A players can select the lost «Men», and for my that is the problem of the combat mecanic. I dont have A&A battle of the bulge, but i like the sistem, i tink is more fair.

Thanks for this informative video. I will use the low luck math in the next game when I plan an attack. By the way, how do the colored hit dice work?

It certainly would make the game go faster and lot less aggravating, my brother and I been playing by percentages for years on a battle by battle basis if both sides agree! Eg if one has 3 infantry attacking at a 1 and since it can't be averaged by a dividing of 6, you just roll for the results- then if you have 8 mix of infantry/artillery it's divided by 6 for 2 auto kills and just roll the remaining 2 dice/ for the tanks/fighters of 7 units it'll be half hits of course and roll the last die/ the bomber at a 4 would have to be rolled! Our way isn't as speedy as yours but it still certainly cut down on whipping dice across the room out of frustration a whole lot!!!🎲🎲🎲💨💨💨 BTW with all this talking about PIPS, where's GLADYS???!

So uhm... you rolled 7 times in favour of the Germans and 3 times for the Bolsheviks, whilst statistically (low luck), Bolsheviks should win. What would your conclusion be? 😜. Great vid friend 👍🏼
