Anger is a basic human emotion experienced by every single human being. Race or gender should not come in to it because they're not relevant. You can be angry about a racial or gender issue but your race or identity should not be made out to be inherent to your anger.

The "angry black woman" stereotype exists to dehumanize and silence black women. But when you're a part of the most disrespected, insulted, mocked, hated and yet emulated group in the U.S., you have a right to be upset.

We battle sexism and racism at the same time. Racists hate us more than black men because we give birth to black men. When you're a black woman your life and accomplishments are impactful. Your very existence is defiance. It makes us that much more amazing, so I always stand tall and proud of who I am.

People call us angry black women as a way to discredit us AND to legitimize the mistreatment and subjugation of us. It's also a way to sustain white supremacist beauty structures.

Just because we are black women, and we are passionate, does not make us "angry", expressing our opinions, does not make us "angry". This is a tool used by society to degrade women and keep them silent. It's just like when women are called "emotional" for showing any hint of passion. Please don't stay silent because of this stupid label.

I've experienced several angry African American women in my life. It shakes my soul, literally. I've had a woman yell at me couple days ago from her road rage for me going slow as I went 40mph on a 20mph highway exit curve. She blocked the highway exit and got off her car and shouted and taunted beyond measure. I have dated African American woman for couple years, and her attitude scared me, psychologically shaken. As an asian man, I feel the need to be more alerted when I encounter them... I admire strong African American women, but not strong argumentative women.
