In a recent interview Quincy Jones said that MJ had wanted the violin intro taken out as it was "messing up his groove"..QJ told him no. So glad he refused as it's such a classic intro. The pure genius of two absolutely gifted individuals coming together and making classics that will live on. They don't make music like this anymore.

You have some decent pipes to sing on a song like this. I tried doing it and failed in the first minute. Michael Jackson is what you call a professional. To add so much joy and character to over 6 minutes is amazing.

I read an article a short time ago of an interview with Bruce Swedien (who helped produce this album and "Thriller", etc.) It talked about his methods of recording, e.g. types of microphones used, methods ("don't think twice..." in "Billie Jean" was sang by MJ through a 5' long cardboard tube, output recorded!), and how he synced up multiple 24 track mixing boards and reel to reel tape players together to put one song together!?!?

His (understandable) thoughts were that magnetic tape was limited, and that "bouncing" tracks (taking 4 tracks of horns, squeezing them down on to one) took away from the sound quality. So, he used one setup for just horns and orchestra, one for rhythm and percussion, one for everything else (bass, guitar, keys), and one for just vocals. Then, he synced the machines together to playback as one...these songs are the end result of that process. I concur, with a background in sound and audio recording, that this was a fantastic approach, and the end result is just fabulous.

To hear this song in instrumental fashion like THIS? 100% divine...Nick*, you ALSO are a genius! :-)
