Islam is the official religion of the Maldives, with nearly 100% of the population being Sunni Muslims. The Maldives has around 580,000 inhabitants, spread across nearly 200 inhabited islands. Yet most tourists will never meet them, confined to private resorts where local life feels like a distant world. We're exploring Hanimaadhoo, an island in the northern Haa Dhaalu Atoll that offers an authentic Maldivian experience away from the typical tourist hotspots!
