I was travelling by car from Austria with some friends after a sci vacation. We had dinner in a restaurant in the castle. The waiter exclaimed: OH no the Swedes are here Again!!! He then explained that the only ones ever taking that castle was the Swedish Army in the 30-year war.
And yes, we were allowed to order food and drinks.

I am from Sweden and I can tell that Spain was somewhat involved in the 30 years war, protestant Sweden mostly fought the Cathlic Habsburg Holy Roman Emperors forces

You guys do know that something called the "Spanish Netherlands" existed for the longest time, right? And the Swedes held Wolin at the same time? Both of these territories were in the Holy Roman Empire and thus they automatically had interests in the region. And the Swedish Phase was only one phase of many.

And painting (0:22) is "Siege of Jasna Góra" - Swedes besieging monastery in Poland 1655. By J. Suchodolski. Nothing to do with Thirty Years` War.

Of course they said 'too bad' - with that precedent, the entirety of the EU would be open to litigation!

Actually there is a lot more more to know at Brietenfeld, and Lutzen as well as several other lesser known battles were fought by Gustavus Adolfus but his opponents were primarily the imperial generals Tilly and Wallenstein .Adolfus was killed at Lutzen. His army was decisively defeated at Nordlingen by the Spainsh under Cardinal- infante Ferdinand. It almost destroyed the Protestant cause but Catholic France which was an ally of Sweden saved the Protestant cause not for religious reasons but raison d etat or reasons of state. He is right about the looting.

This guy learned a very different history than me. The 30 years war was called like that many years after it ended, but it's a set of a dozen wars between many countries. Germany didnt exist back then, some of the kingdoms existing in that time like Brandemburg, Brunswick or Saxony were in a faction while Bayern, Austria and the Holy Roman Empire were in the opposite. Spain fought against Netherlands and England in that frame. Sweden fought against Poland in that war. There is a battle, though, the Battle of Nördinglen, where swedish and their allied german forces blocked the spanish supply route in their war against Netherlands, but they were defeated in 2 days by the spanish forces. The way this man is telling that story it seems the 30 years war was between Sweden and Spain.

I bet you if that case won. every country that had their history plundered by colonialism would be suing half of the European countries for their stuff back

It's all put in an amusing way, but actually wars, battles, invasions, lootings and all that stuff are sick. Lives lost, families disrupted, all the heartache...
