HOW LONG WOULD YOU LAST WITH THIS CRUISE CHALLENGE?
There is a challenge going arounf for people on cruise ships that I don't think many people can do. Can you not use your phone for any reason on a cruise? That means no txting, no picture, no watching videos. From what I see on cruise ships these days not very many people could do this cruise challenge.

I remember a time I went 40 years without the internet or cell phone. No problem.

I would love it! (If everyone had to do it.) Paper menus, no emails to answer, no tempting sale ads, just enjoying one another and nature. Aaaah, the good ole days.

Heck yes, it's my only time to disconnect from work and just relax.

My wife and myself have locked up our phones for the entire cruise. We have done this on Severus cruises now. It’s great to be retired. It’s such a wonderful feeling.

It’s actually really refreshing to have a complete break from it all, a chance to reconnect and reflect

Absolutely, a break is so nice from everyday life.

I leave my phone in Airplane mode and use the ship's WI-FI to check emails and text messages a couple of times per day. I have elderly parents and feel the need to keep in touch with my family back home. In general though, I spend a lot less time on my phone when I am on any kind of vacation.

I never buy internet on a cruise. I do take pics for later though. I'm not buying that expensive internet.

Definitely can do it, …and have done it many of times. Like to enjoy the peace and quiet and the friends or family that I’m cruising with.😊😊😊

I can absolutely win this challenge. In fact the only time I do use my phone is to take pictures, but I can bring a camera for that. The last 2 cruises we went on, we didn't even use the ships wifi. I dont even have any social media apps at all on my phone except for YouTube and email and I can easily do without that for a week or two. It is so nice to disconnect for a few weeks with no phone calls or any distractions to interrupt our vacations, I would rather enjoy my vacation in peace and quiet.

Absolutely YES. No problem. I cruise to disconnect.

Very easy. My previous line of work trained me well. living life without distractions of the real world makes it a huge plus.

It just goes to show how heavily dependent we have become on our smartphones. I'm not sure how many would survive a global internet outage, which can and most likely will happen. We would have to all go back to writing letters and paying with cheques or cash, etc and no more youtube or other media services. You would have to listen to the radio instead. Don you could do a great radio show about cruising, 'Don on the Waves'.

We could totally do it. One of the reasons we go cruising is to disconnect. None of us get the WiFi so we don’t really use our phones anyway. I’d just have to get a camera.

Absolutely!Thats why I cruise to disconnect

I could not do it for several reasons.
1. I try to pack as light as possible.
2. I bought an extremely expensive smartphone with the best camera I have ever owned. The phone is lighter and more capable than the smallest digita😢l camera I have looked at.
3. I download several magazines and books on my phone ahead of the cruise. I save space and weight, but I can still do my pleasure reading.
4. If I am in a covered area (Mexico and Canada), I send out the occasional text to friends and family to let them know I am OK . This is a safety measure.

However, I do not purchase WiFi, and I'm not constantly on my phone.

I can totally do this and have. I go off grid every cruise.

Yes. We always shut off our phones until disembarkation. We use a digital camera for taking pictures and videos. We take a total vacation.

Absolutely! I’ve done it on more than 8 cruises. Only recently did I use the phone for a call while cruising. On those 8 cruises didn’t use the internet either!

Only took my phone out the last day, to be sure it was charged.
