Hey everyone! Just wanted to pop in here to give an update and say thank you to everyone in the comments who alerted me nicely that there is actually ONE more step for these clothes after they fail to sell at the bins. I do some research in preparation for these videos, but even with that I missed the step between the goodwill bins and the landfill, I apologize for missing that in the video! So basically as I understand it the step between the bins and the landfill is.. unsold clothes are bound together and sold to different places for different uses(to recycle/reuse the fabric, or to be sold in other countries) at this point some items are thrown away but apparently a good majority does get bought in this final step because the price is very low. Thank you to everyone who informed me of this, and now with all that being said please enjoy the video! <3 XOXO Love you all!

As a crocheter, I want to say a huge thank you for saving that baby blanket. Someone worked long and hard on that and I’m so glad you saved it! 💜

I love that all the transformations were in the same video, so satisfying

As a sewist and a seamstress the bins are a MUST for thrift fabrics for projects. And DO NOT be afraid of 'The Vultures' they are like bees if you dont bother them, they wont bother you. There's usually a side group (mostly older ladies) that are shopping for quilting fabrics, etc. Just vibe with those people LOL

Not only did you shop sustainably, but you also gave us restoration/re-use in one video?! Absolutely standing ovation happening rn Thank you so much, I LOVED this type of content! You could do this all day and I'm here for it!!!!

I'm a low income person, intergenerationally, and have thrifted and revamped clothes my whole life. The bins was definitely one of our favorite places, and you're exactly right, the resellers have come much later! I must admit, the thrift stores are a different world for us now. I love that younger generations are looking for second hand clothes because it's much more sustainable. But I am not crazy about the resellers, it takes away us poorer folks from having a chance to score a nice quality item that lasts. I have a great Michael Kors jacket that's lasted me for years and years, and I wouldn't have been able to afford it without thrifting.

I love that you're showing folks the options they have at thrift stores, and how much better it can be to find things there and make them your own. I recently made a cloak out of a set of cotton and linen blend Ikea curtains found at goodwill. I dyed them, too!

Thanks for the fun Mia, and the great nuance you gave us about the bins, too!

Only Mia can turn a video into a shopping vlog, try on haul and a "thrift flip" all in one!!

Make this a series please! I would love a monthly bin shopping saving iconic items from the landfill. Also maybe you can sell it or do a giveaway at the end of a quarter of doing the episodes

I still remember when mia didn't know how to sew AT ALL and glued everything... And now she's sooo good at sewing! You go girl!

Insider info: I used to work for Goodwill. The stuff at the bin place is a combination of rejects that never made it to the sales floor at the regular stores. And pulls from the rack that didn't sell in around a month or more depending on the volume of the location. They usually alternate the color of the tags or the plastic piece that holds them each week. That way they know how long the merchandise has been on the sales floor. If a rack is starting to get too full to shop they will pull all the pieces with the same color tag and send it to the bin place. That is why you are able to find the random gem in the bin.

I shopped for my wedding dress at a goodwill wedding dress event. Only a certain number of people could go in at a time. It worked out fine bc all of the brides ran straight to the rack of newer dresses and I was the only one sifting through super old dresses. Ended up buying a 40-50 year old handmade dress for $25. Pulled it apart and revamped it to be my wedding dress. That was 5 years ago tomorrow actually!

Edit: uploaded a short with pictures on my channel if anyone cares to see. *not a professional video maker* 😂

When I was a single mom, I shopped goodwill and thrift stores a lot for clothes. It’s a habit that continues now. I always felt guilty for not being able to buy my kid clothes from the regular stores. Recently we were looking through some old photos of her school days..I realized she looked more fashionable than most of the other kids. Lol she told me that kids were always asking where she got her clothes but would always say she didn’t know..more picked it up somewhere lol. It relieved some of the guilt but looking back..I did what I had to do. And yes it is fun searching for those special finds. I never spent more than $15 for formal gowns. Her high school had 3 or 4 formals a year. No way could we afford $300 plus on a gown.

I love how she went from big shein hauls to being this sustainable
And this specific video shows that being sustainable is way cheaper and cooler than being a wasteful shein shopper

Mia, you'll probably never see this, but I thought I'd let you know your channel (specifically your mom) inspired our new rescue dog's name. We found her with her 5 puppies in a bad condition, and I kept calling her mama, which quickly evolved into "mama maples".
So Yea, that's it 😂 all the puppies have found homes and my husband and I couldn't bear to part from our miss Maple 🥺so now she's ours forever.
thank you always for sharing positivity and kindness in your videos 🥰
