4) YubiKey ~ PIV Tool Usage with Windows File Encryption Demo

This is a tutorial showing the usage of the YubiKey PIV Tool to create a certificate and then demonstrate setting up your Windows 10 account to make use of that certificate and encrypt files using it. This uses the standard Microsoft Encrypted File System or EFS to perform the encryption.

If you would have set the PUK (Pin Unlock Key) you could have unlocked the YubiKey after 3 bad attempts. The PUK actually allows you to reset the PIN so it's not actually unlocking the PIN since you may not know it anymore. Also, if you wanted to modify how many bad attempts you can have you can modify that as well.

As an update, the Yubikey PIV manager is deprecated now and Yubikey does not support it. All management is done from the Yubikey Manager app itself now (second icon in the row of 4 icons near the top left of the desktop in this video)

when i try to install certificate using yubikey for windows file encryption system it gives error box: “provider dll failed to initialize correctly” - any help please? this probably does not work anymore…

if you set the puk you can unlock the blocked pin using the puk instead of reseting the device

does this mean that after three tries and your yubikey is bricked that you will forever lose all access to encrypted files that were encrypted using the private key on the yubikey that was blocked?

Doesn't take any time until the files are locked, they just are after your reboot your computer :) Thanks for the video, it all worked gerat, I just have one question: I have two YubiKeys (one as backup), do you know how to set this up with multiple keys? I tried exporting the certificate from key 1 to key 2, but when I try to unlock the file with key 2, it says "wrong smart card".
