Come, thou fount of every blessing (Nettleton)

Come, thou fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing thy grace!
Streams of mercy never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! Oh, fix me on it,
mount of God's unchanging love.

Here I find my greatest treasure;
hither by thy help, I've come;
and I hope, by thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God;
he, to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood.

Oh, to grace how great a debtor
daily I'm constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee:
prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here's my heart, oh, take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above.

Words: Robert Robinson
Music: Nettleton, 19th century American; improvised accoompaniment by Robert McCormick

Wow, after missing having this hymn in our books in the Church of Jesus Christ for 4 decades (since 1985; in 1948 book previously), and now learning that it would finally be reincluded: Hymns -- for Home and Church, 2025-26; and was just soft-rereleased into the online partial version of the new book, I thought it would be nice to see some performances of it by people in _other_ Christian faiths. We also have had it performed in our church from outside of our hymnals, including a beautiful rearrangement by Mack Wilberg. In fact, it was Bro. Wilberg's 1995 rearrangement that made it popular again in our church, and our church had many requests to include it in the 2025-26 hymnal.
