How Do I Prevent Blood Clots?

Показать описание
Blood clots (or Venous Thromboembolism [VTE]), comprised of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), claim more than 100,000 lives every year in the United States. Yet as serious a health issue as blood clots are, studies have repeatedly shown that patients at risk for VTE often don’t receive treatments known to help prevent them.
Patient refusal of medications to prevent VTE remains a critically important issue. The Johns Hopkins VTE Collaborative is spearheading efforts to build patient-centered interventions aimed to improve patient adherence with venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis. We have created this patient education video with funding from the Patient- Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) for a project titled “Preventing Venous Thromboembolism: Empowering and Enabling Patient-Centered Care via Health Information Technology” (Program Award CE-12-11-4489).
