Hello bookish people! This video is for the girls who need to rant and rave about everything that happened in the final gambit by jennifer lynn barnes. I breakdown the plot of what happened and how i feel about it all.

12:33-14:17 why tobias chose avery

I loved the reveal of why he chose Avery tbh. It makes a lot of sense and lines up with Tobias’ previous actions and all the people he let fall to protect his own interests. It really added to his character to me. He was kind of built up to be this larger than life benevolent person but he was deeply flawed and really not that special, just lucky and smart

Im happy she ended yup with Jameson to be honest. With Grayson he was still on emily and when he saw eve he got hooked.

I just finished and I loved the book even though the “old man” being so smart he planned the future out didn’t really make sense lol

Tobias Hawthorne also choose her because there was so many factors about her that make her perfect for the role. Like you said she is technically a target but she also was in the perfect place at the wrong time. Toby was very fond of Avery’s mother and he knew how incredibly talented and intelligent she is. Tobias also was just a bit of a backstabber in general.

I kept expecting Alisa or Nash to be a secret villain by reading book 1 and 2 and book 3 disappointed me so much, I expected a better plot twist and more shock value.

You did a very good job explaining the book plot. I recently completed the book and I loved your review.

I read the first two books, DNF’d the third, came here just to see how it ends and I am confused as hell 😂 Unfortunately I think the author made the plot after the first book waaay too complicated.

This book was basically a korean thriller drama but add in the spice of poorly written romantic subplot aka the love triangle and riddles

Really solid review! My only comment is in reference to your statement that Max's character didn't have any impact on the overall plot. I'd like to point out that it was Max who called in her doctor mom in The Hawthorne Legacy who nursed Avery back to health after the bomb incident. That was pretty significant. I do agree that she doesn't provide much more storyline contribution than that though.

bro, to me this entire series just went downhill after the first book. the plot of the first one was great, i loved the first book so much i read the second and third one right away. those were like a 3 star rating for me, they just didn’t have the same magic and it got too complicated. the brothers hawthorne finally came out and i was super excited to read it, but i forgot basically everything that happened in the other books so i had to watch the summary videos to understand. I started the brothers hawthorne and it drove me into a huge reading slump so i DNF’d it, but now i’m trying to read it again and i’m watching these videos again. I just wish the author didn’t stretch out the plots so much, it gets boring after a while.

Thank you for this. I'm not sure I can make it to the end of the third book... but now I feel like I have.

I just finished The Brothers Hawthorne and tbh I think people who don’t like it just don’t understand it. I loved the series and thought it made sense. For me this is my ranking:
1. The Hawthorne Legacy
2. The Brothers Hawthorne
3. The Inheritance Games
4. The Final Gambit
I personally loved all the books though. I thought it got better but it’s really just preference in my opinion.

I loved the concept of this story but feel it could easily have been told in one book :)

Technically Max was an important character. Though not needed in the main plot. But come on! Definitely in this mumbo jumbo Avery needed someone to talk to and release her stress, be a simple girl that she was back in her old school. Bcz she couldn't trust anyone here in the Hawthorne house and that crazy new school. Atleast at the beginning. And come on it's a young adult book, she needs a bestieee

What are your thoughts on book 4 (The Brothers Hawthorn)? I’m sure you’ve lost interest as it’s been a year…but, if you’ve read it. Please share!

I was forced to listen to all 3 coz of a significant another, and honestly, it started good, but then it just went below mediocre.
And no offence to any girls, but the story was written with young girls in mind, cause the whole love part was too forced and honestly too much of the good things that would be expected in a book of this setting was simply replaced with romance snd isolated puzzles that work in that situation of people thinking themselves smarter than the world whole being completely ignorant(i am talking about boys, not the old man, the old man was truly smart).
Snd at the end where she gave away the money with that charity stunt, yeah, only in fantasy novels, she could have used that as a basic for a lot things, and started a completly new legacy, but she did what would feel right, not what could have been right.
But thats the book, a feel good book, not a good book.
