CS:GO's 2022 Rank Updoot

Think something weird's been going on with CS:GO's ranks? Feel the games you're having are unmatched or broken? Think you should be Global, but there's a conspiracy to stop you from getting there? Valve may or may not have fixed the ranks, but they claim to have changed it in this update.

As someone who has never made it past Master Guadian Elite in the few years I've played, I was hoping this update would fix that. You are now looking at a Silver Master Elite. I want to thank Gaben, Valve, 3kliksphilip, my mom, my dog, and God for this prestigious rank. I will do my very best to maintain and uphold the values of a silver rat.

I believe this was mostly aimed at NA / Oceania and SAF matchmaking where the ranking system was messed up.

This definitely helped in Australia. Australia's silver ranks were STACKED. My Nova friend is now SMFC. My silver friends are now Nova, and on the way up. Matchmaking was completely broken here, and the initial impression is that everyone is far more spread out now.

I stopped playing around 2016 and was able to get to DMG during that time, recently picked up the game again during the last major and the skill increase of even silvers and gold nova is insane compared to what it was back then. When I was doing my placement matches again it felt like I was straight up playing MG's and DMG's at high silver/low gold.

After carrying my teammates with 40-50 kills to Supreme, now I'm officially Gold Nova Master. Congratulations to me.

You gotta look at the rank dist. for NA and OCE to really see why there was a problem. For half of those respective regions were in SIlver. EU is mostly unaffected.

This was really important for us in the NA and Oceana, as the majority of players, by that I mean more than 80% were Nova 3 or below. EU had and still has, presumably, a ranking system much closer to a bell curve, while in the other regions, the graph of ranks is almost a diagonal line.

This recalibration was much needed. I went from gold nova 1 to LE and I swear the people I play against now are worse than the silvers I played before. It was so scuffed

Went from silver 4 to Nova 3 which is where I've always sat over the past decade when not intentionally trying to rank up. With that alone, it feels like we're "Back" to "normal".

I'm EU West and was DMG before the patch and remained there afterwards, most of my teammates also kept their ranks. This was definitely mostly aimed at NA where the rank balance is fucked to say the least.

I’ve played CS:GO for a decently long time. About 1600 hours. Just a few weeks ago I pushed into Gold Nova for the first time.

My games have always felt… weird in Silver. Some people are so horrendously bad I think they’re blindfolded, and others should be in the top few ranks. But most felt like decent players. Not bad, not amazing.

Rank change shot me from Nova 1 to MGE. My games feel significantly better now. Whatever they did it’s worked wonders, at least in my anecdotal experience. Everyone in my games feels about the same skill level as me. The game is a lot more fun now.

i remember this update shooting me from hardstuck silver 2 for 5+ years to placing me in master guardian 2 and then eventually i reached LEM :)

I was stuck in silver for 6 years. I know what goes on down there. Yeah there are bad players who just suck but thats honestly the minority of people in silver. The rest are smurfs, throwers, griefers, and people who are genuinely trying to win. Because of how many people were in silver 2, even, the skill difference between people of the same rank was insane

I think there is some dust that still needs to settle with this, my usual crew's ranks were adjusted as follows:
Faceit Rank: Old Rank -> New Rank
lvl 10: MG -> Supreme
lvl 6: GN3 -> Supreme
lvl 5: GNM -> Supreme
lvl 3: GN2 -> LE

We did end up quitting after game 4 of MM when we had to go up against a hacker though, some things never change...

The summer of 2019 me and a friend went on a tear through gold nova to mg and eventually we both hit mge and during 2020-2021 i slowly dropped from mge to gn3 and was gn3 when this charge happened. After this rank change i am now supreme. I played my first game as supreme i got stomped but seeing supreme has given me the confidence to get into competitive counterstrike again

I went from gold 2/3 to LE, won a single game after that and now I'm LEM. I definitely was not in the right rank before the update though as I was consistently on the top of the score board, winning the vast majority of my games and not ranking up at all. It's so refreshing to be on the bottom half of the score board sometimes for a change.

I have the exact opposite problem, I constantly get stomped by players at my rank but somehow do not derank. Hopefully this change drops me down to MG
