Škoda has unveiled the second generation of its popular Kodiaq SUV, bringing significant improvements over the first generation. One of the highlights of the new Kodiaq is its wider range of powertrain options, which now includes a plug-in hybrid variant. This addition represents a first for the Kodiaq lineup and offers an impressive electric range of over 100 kilometers. The second-generation Kodiaq also flaunts a more pronounced and unique design, making it stand out while still maintaining the brand’s core design ethos. With an emphasis on offering more space, especially for passengers in the third-row seats, this generation aims to enhance the comfort and experience of long journeys.

The interior of the new Kodiaq has been rethought and redesigned to provide an upgraded user experience. A centerpiece of this effort is the 12.9-inch touchscreen display that dominates the dashboard. The display aims to ensure that all the controls are at the fingertips of the driver, offering enhanced convenience. The center console is streamlined and efficiently organized, ensuring that everything is in place without creating clutter. The integration of both manual and digital controls is done intuitively, and Škoda has also incorporated new 'Simply Clever' features, such as dual phone box for cooling and simultaneous charging of two mobile phones, and a rear storage compartment with a cup holder.

One of the notable aspects of the second-generation Kodiaq is the range of engine options. With two petrol and two diesel engines, customers are spoilt for choice. The power output ranges from 110 kW (150 hp) to 150 kW (204 hp), catering to a wide array of preferences and requirements. The inclusion of a plug-in hybrid option is not only a nod to the increasing demand for eco-friendly vehicles but also represents Škoda’s commitment to embracing the future of mobility.

In terms of safety, the new Kodiaq is at the forefront of innovation. The vehicle boasts second-generation full LED Matrix headlights, which provide improved visibility and add a level of sophistication to the car’s aesthetics. Additionally, it features advanced assistance systems that are aimed at ensuring both the safety of the passengers and ease of driving. The cutting-edge safety features are geared towards making the Kodiaq a reliable and secure choice for families.

The original Kodiaq, which was launched in 2016, was instrumental in solidifying Škoda’s position in the SUV market. Its combination of striking design, spacious interiors, and value for money made it an instant hit among customers, and it garnered several international awards. The second generation aims to build on this success, with Chairman of the Board of Škoda Auto, Klaus Zellmer, emphasizing that it has all the prerequisites to “add another great chapter to this success story.”

It’s also important to note that improving an already successful vehicle like the Kodiaq is no small feat. The design team at Škoda took on this challenge head-on by sharpening the vehicle’s looks while retaining the distinctive elements that make the Kodiaq recognizable. The emphasis on more interior space, advanced safety, cutting-edge technology, and versatility ensures that the second generation is a worthy successor.
