John Lennon and Pete Shotton formed a skiffle club at Quarry Bank High School in Liverpool, England, without understanding the magnitude of their future plans. The band began performing at friend's parties, school dances, and neighborhood movie theaters as more and more classmates became involved. Lyrics by skiffle pioneer Lonnie Donegan, R&B heavyweight Fats Domino, and rock 'n' roller Elvis Presley made up their early set list. Even after George Harrison and Paul McCartney became members of the band, they stuck to covering songs by known artists like Duane Eddy, Carl Perkins, and The Everly Brothers.
