I rarely see people do the head forward when the kick happens. While reading toguchi Sensei's book I saw him do it with the look toward the left, and then turn head right, and then forward for kick, and then the same the opposite way, that's how I learned it before I joined shorei-kan, but I still saw people do it without the look
