🎬 In this FilmSpeak video essay we discuss why Robin is PERFECT for The Batman 2 and why Dick Grayson needs to be in The Batman II.

🦇 Holy Bat-fans! 🎥 Join us in this exciting discussion surrounding the recent rumors about Dick Grayson Robin being in The Batman Part 2 and why this is perfect because Robin is the missing piece in Matt Reeves' dark and gritty Batman universe, starring the incredible Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.

For too long, the character of Dick Grayson, aka Robin, has been overlooked in Batman movies. It's almost as if filmmakers have been hesitant to include him in a Batman film following the infamous 1997 Batman & Robin. But in this video, we'll explore the vital role that Robin plays in Bruce Wayne's journey towards becoming a true hero, and why he's the perfect addition to "The Batman Part II."

🤝 Robin as Bruce's Protege:
One of the most compelling aspects of Robin's character is his role as Batman's protege. He provides Bruce Wayne with a unique opportunity to mentor someone who has shared similar tragic life experiences. Through Robin, Batman can guide and shape a young hero, offering him an alternative to the path of vengeance that Bruce himself has walked. This dynamic not only adds depth to Batman's character but also reflects his desire to prevent others from enduring the same darkness he has.

🦸‍♂️ Embracing Duality:
Robin represents a significant aspect of Bruce's journey towards embracing his own duality. While Batman is often seen as a symbol of fear and justice, Robin embodies hope and resilience. Together, they create a balanced partnership that reflects the complexities of Batman's character and the city of Gotham itself. Robin's inclusion allows Bruce to confront his own demons and find redemption through guiding a new hero.

👀 Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson's Vision:
Excitingly, both Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson have expressed interest in bringing Robin into their Batman universe. This shows their commitment to exploring the full spectrum of Batman's world and giving fans a fresh take on the iconic duo.

The Batman leaves our hero and Gotham City in a unique position that no other Batman film has attempted. While Bruce Wayne may have foiled The Riddler's plans to eliminate Gotham's mayor-elect Bella Reál, the city itself is completely submerged underwater.

Adding Robin to this universe might actually be a subtle way to mature Bruce as he takes on the role of a “father” so he’ll eventually be more stoic and less reckless

You have no idea how much hype I would have seeing the dynamic duo on the big screen. Especially, with this version of Batman being a symbol of hope, and to add the Boy Wonder would really add to that imo. Robin needs color tho.

Some reasons for Dick Grayson to be in the sequel:

1. The Penguin series. This show is all about Gotham’s criminal underworld and its mobsters. There’s going to be lots of famous mob characters from the comics, like Sal Maroni and Sofia Falcone. There’s a good opportunity for the introduction of Tony Zucco, the mob boss who had Dick’s parents murdered. And there are a few actors whose roles are still unknown, maybe one of them plays him.

2. Riddler’s legacy. I would wager that what Riddler told Batman about being an orphan in Gotham would make Bruce feel supremely guilty, and drive him to try improving things as Bruce Wayne. This sense of responsibility would be exacerbated by watching Dick lose his parents at about the same age as Bruce had been. Bruce would be desperate to prevent another Riddler, and also feel empathy for Dick from his own trauma.

3. Bruce Wayne’s reappearance. The Batman was all about Bats realizing that Bruce Wayne has a role to play in protecting Gotham. He has to care about his public image. And if Bruce suddenly has this young, impressionable, traumatized boy in his life, he’ll have to be careful about how he acts in order to be a positive influence and, again, not accidentally create another Riddler.

4. The mayor’s son. Batman crossed paths with this kid 3 times throughout the movie. He saved his life twice, once as Batman and once as Bruce Wayne. During the funeral scene, Bruce even figures out where the Riddler is in the church by following the boy’s gaze up to the balcony. The mayor’s son was also the first civilian to trust Batman after the flood — during the flare scene, the kid walks towards Batman first, and everyone else follows.

5. Selina mentioned she was going to Blüdhaven at the end of the film. Blüdhaven is the city where Dick Grayson moved after he grew up and became Nightwing.

"Bruce is looking to Dick like 'He's everything I want to be, he's the happy go lucky smiley kid that I lost in me when my parents died.' and Dick is looking to Bruce like 'He's everything I want to be, he's a hero.' and it's not a Father and Son dynamic they're just Best Friends. They understand each other." - Grant Morrison
Perfect character development for this version of Bruce Wayne, can't wait to see Batman & Robin fight along side each other on the big screen.

I feel like if Dick had traits if all the Robins though, he would cease to be Dick. Dick would never try to steal the wheels off of the Batmobile. He is a beacon of virtue. That’s why he is acknowledged by Batman to be a better version of himself. Because Dick is the best of humanity.

I just want more stories about Robin tbf. We've had so many adaptations of batman and Robin is so overlooked.

Hell the existence of shows like Young Justice is proof of how interesting these characters are when they're not just an afterthought to big popular superhero.

Didn’t expect it after The Batman, but bringing in Grayson for Chapter 2 would be such an interesting move

This would actually make Robert's portrayal of both sides of batman make so much sense from the first movie. Because if you introduce Robin the way you described, they can use that as an excuse to differentiate the two sides of batman

The contrast of Pattinson's Batman being a father/mentor to a bright and sunny Robin has been on my mind for many months.

13:27 I feel like giving Dick the traits of all the other Robin's would be a bit of a misstep both in terms of his characterization and the potential future of the DCU Batman. Given that we know Brave and the Bold will feature Damian Wayne's Robin along with other members of the Bat-Family, it'd be fitting to explore those other characters like Jason Todd and Tim Drake in the DCU, and giving those attributes to Dick could just work to confuse audiences later on

the OG dynamic duo has never been given the justice they deserve on screen

That final scene of the girl grabbing Batman’s arm before she’s airlifted away by the national was the moment he realized he needs to be more of a symbol of hope and helpfulness. If Robin appeared in the sequel, it could be a good opportunity to see Bruce put that lesson into action.

I want Robin in the batman part 2, beacause is a way to make a wonderful story with Batpattinson, and maybe, explore some other parts that might help with character, explore the relationship between Bruce Wayne and Alfred, make a father and son situations, like the comics, this way can make wonderful scenes, DCU can have Dick Grayson as Nightwing, and we can see him in 2 situations, a Dick Grayson with more experience teachings Damian Wayne, AND a "' Dick Grayson year one."

It’s time. It’s been two decades since we’ve last seen Robin in a batman film. He’s been solo for long enough.

I really hope they dont remove tje circus aspecy to his backstory tbh. Somehow, i just know the aesthetics of a classic circus would fit right in with gotham’s knitty gritty 1900s detective noir vibe. Also, i really hope a rendition of robin they take inspiration from will be robin from young justice

Whether he knows it or not, Matt Reeves has the potential to not only provide a shit ton of fan service over the next two Batman films, but to also give people what they’ve been asking for. Everyone whether they’re a Batman fan or not has wanted to see a darker more down to earth Batman which we got in the first film. Now he could be providing us with the first live action iteration of the true Batman and Robin dynamic from the animated shows and comics. I haven’t been this excited for future superhero movies since the 2009-2019 Marvel era, and it’s because Matt Reeves is finally giving people what they want. He’s giving people what they want while also staying true and authentic to the characters which pleases hardcore and casual fans alike.

I'd love to see Robin on the big screen and as a kid especially. I hold that making Bruce responsible for more than just the nebulous city but a real child with immediate needs is both very grounding, and brings out an angle of his character that has been absent from his movies up to now.

I think Bruce being a father figure would be more of a challenge for him than being a older brother type. Bruce is so closed off in The Batman universe it almost makes sense for his next emotional challenge is to open up to a son.

While I have mixed feelings for Batman: Forever, the scenes where Bruce tries to convey the emptiness of revenge and vengeance to Dick are actually quite compelling. If a mediocre movie can get that much out of the Batman and Robin dynamic then I think a movie where the duo are done true justice would make for something incredible.
