2023 and this video is still helping people, myself just now. I just purchased my first DSLR and it's a Mark iii 5d (second hand). I know it's an old camera but I'm loving the quality. Thanks for posting this video those years ago Chris.

Manual focusing works well for static subjects, like landscapes, buildings, and portraits, but many of the other subjects that I shoot that move really fast would not give me as many keepers without knowing how to use the many types of AF settings.

I had that same lens, it failed to be tack sharp no matter what body camera in the Canon family I put it on. It's the lens. Go with the Canon 50mm 1.4 (or even the 1.2 or 1.8), much better results.

Having played your tutorial and others, can you possibly give me a steer on whether I have this right!
I have changed the back focus button.
I have got it on shutter speed 1000
I have it in A1 servo
I have changed the AF area selection to the one with 9 points (should I change this I wonder)
I would also like to photograph him playing rugby where there are lots of little chaps running all over the place!
