Akai MPC Key 61 - Stage Piano Instrument Overview

Check out these piano sounds! If piano sounds are your thing, the Akai MPC Key 61 has it's fair share of beautiful piano sounds! In this video I walk through the Stage Piano plugin instrument on the MPC Key 61, demo some sounds, and give an overview of instruments capabilities. I am loving these sounds and can't wait to connect to my 88 key weighted controller to really give them a good test!

I love how this is essentially giving people the usability of the east/west collection, which I love dearly and think they are the best sounds on the planet. With some of these keyboard sounds that seem to exceed those recorded at Abbey Rd., Studios for the East West collection. Of course, they were recorded and designed years ago. But they have still been my go to up to this keyboard. The fact that it has 6000 sounds plus all of the modeling modules installed is crazy. I may not have to bring many of my East-West sounds over to it. The only thing I wish they would’ve done with his keyboard is had a HDMI out to allow for a larger screen to be attached. I’m also not a fan of the way they have their sequencing page set up. I just wish it was set up like a regular DAW, instead of the listing of the tracks as they are. Obviously I can use their DAW from the PC and make that a reality, but I would rather it be built into the keyboard and again, allow for an external monitor in order to blow it up to be viewed more easily.

In any case, this is one of the most complete keyboards I’ve seen in a very long time, as most of even the high-end keyboards only have a little over 1000 sounds max. So for this to release at $1899, is truly a gift to the songwriting community. I just wish they would’ve released an 88 key version also. Or at least to 76 key version. Which isn’t that big of a deal, because I have a weighted 88 key keyboard that feels exactly like a grand piano bed that I will hook up anyways. Overall, I’m pretty astonished by what they are offering for the price with this keyboard.

It’s essentially a workstation with an MPCX drum machine built in, along with a vocal suite to allow for endless possibilities vocally, along with a four part harmony to make all of the original Styx songs you could ever imagine. Lol. It has been a long time since I’ve been blown away by a workstation. Quite frankly because most companies release a new version of what they already had with just a few tweaks and charge another thousand dollars over top of what they had before. Akai has seemingly taken hey look at the market and decided to release something to embarrass every other company out there, especially at the price.

So God bless them for designing and releasing this unit and bless you for making a Videos to convince me to buy it. Thank you my friend.

Making that comparison video to the stage 3 pianos is a fantastic idea. Really looking forward to that one. 😁🙏 if i can request, please include as many sounds as possible in the comparison video like different piano models from both keyboards and Rhodes and strings. Lovely playing. I had my heart set on a Fantom 06 but then watched this and it seems this kills it in terms of tweakage with piano sounds. Amazing. Looks easy to do as well.

I got the trial and sampled the sounds ..that way I can make key groups out them ..I'm gonna have to buy it at some point

I was surprised how little variation there is between all the piano sounds. They all sound (except for workstation) very similar to my ears - on my Key 61, not just your video.

Love the video, next time could you please lower the volume on your mic to match the keyboard better. It’s actually better to have the volume of the keyboard louder than the other way around. Looking forward to the next videos on this keyboard, i love the way you play. 🙏

This keyboard rules ! Is it perfect no, yet it’s a tool to get the job done, you will have other tools that will fill in the gaps is this keyboard, yet it is near perfect and provides immediate results in making music seemingly.

They are getting close, but compared to other plugins the Air Pianos sound nasal as if they were underwater, very boomy, with a strange resonance in the sustain and too much Fxs. I'm sure they will fix this in an update and add more control and CC response, thanks for sharing.
