A few years ago 21mp was considered plenty for pretty much everything. Now suddenly we're so entitled and so consumed with numbers that 24mp isn't "enough"... We need to gain some perspective.

Large prints can be printed at a lower dpi. Because the viewer looks at a 24x36 inch print from 7 or 8ft. away. The eye can’t distinguish tiny details at that distance. I have a number of large prints in my home. No one ever looks at them from six inches away but photographers. Some were shot years ago with 20 megapixel cameras. No one has ever said to me, “If only it were a 100 megapixels.”

Great video Samuel. I too think the R6 Mark II is the best camera I've ever used and I have 18 years of experience using Canon's best including their 1D cameras.
Before I bought the R6 Mark II I did research to determine if resolution mattered. James Reader did a great comparison of the R6 (original), R, and R5 and shot with the best Canon RF lenses for both portraits and landscape. I downloaded his raw files, the Enhanced the R6 files in Adobe Camera Raw and output the raw file to 45 MP. When overlayed with the 45 MP R5 files, the Enhanced R6 files were sharper and more detailed! That's when I decided that I didn't need 45 MP from the R5 and got the newly announced R6 Mark II! Any size I can print (or crop) on the R5, I can do so with the R6 Mark II as well. Focus accuracy will actually make a bigger difference than the MP count and the R6 Mark II's AF system is actually better than the R5.

For video one thing you mention is the lack of Clog2. However, what I am more surprised by is the lack of Clog1!!! I don't think even the R3 has it (just Clog3). Sure Clog3 has some advantages like greater dynamic range, however Clog1 has the advantage of being much cleaner in the shadows and being native at ISO400. Clog1 is actually much better for low light situations than Clog3. I really wish they'd add it back to the R6 lineup.

Other than that the only other thing I really miss would be 4K 120. I do most of my shooting in 4K 60 though and the R6 II has the best 4K 60 in the business (aside from maybe the R3 which I suspect is similar).

I have the M6 mark II. I am happy with it.

To my experience, clients don't understand difference between All-I and IPB. Even for weddings, IPB is sufficient. Clients are happy when you offer 4K. It is us, photographers, who think about the superiority of All-I over IPB. To the clients, capturing right moment at their wedding in 4K makes them happy :)
Only if you're a serious filmmaker who aims to be on Netflix one day, you need ALL-I in CLOG 2 but the you will hire a cine camera, right?

For the audio part for Canon r6ii canon does have xlr components that can be put into the hot shoe ...that's made by Tascam Canon Kit XLR Microphone Adapter for Mirrorless Cameras, Black (CA-XLR2dC)

Well. I was using 5d miv and switched to r6 mii. I have been using it for wildlife photography almost 3 months ago with sigma 150-600mm lense. I didn't face any problem till now. Its a great camera for me.

You obviously missed a few points here... the mic problem and missing XLR connectors you've mentioned aren't a problem at all... The R6 MkII has a 21 pin digital hot shoe on top for the exact same reason. There's external mics built exactly for this reason, automatically syncing with the video. Plus you didn't mention that it has full 6K ProRes RAW output via HDMI, making it possible to shoot way better video quality than All-I with an external recorder such as Atomos Ninja. It doesn't have everything built-in, that's right. But Canon left everything accessible with this camera. I love mine a lot.

Summary: Three reasons against buying the Canon R6 Mark II include its 24.2-megapixel sensor, which may not satisfy high-detail needs for landscape or product photography; limitations in video capabilities, lacking the All-I codec and 4K 120fps; and inadequate audio performance without XLR ports, making it less suitable for top professionals.

Here are three reasons against buying the Canon R6 Mark II:

Sensor Resolution: The R6 Mark II features a 24.2-megapixel sensor, which may not provide enough detail for users focused on high-resolution work, such as landscape or product photography that benefits from larger resolutions.

Video Limitations: While it supports impressive video features, it lacks advanced options like the All-I codec or 4K recording at 120fps, which may limit its appeal for serious videographers who require these capabilities.

Audio Performance: The camera does not come with XLR ports for professional audio input, making its audio capabilities less robust for high-end video production where superior sound quality is essential.

I rented the Canon R6 Mk II to try before buying. I only shoot photos, no video, so I can say for photos it was impressive. I also rented a RF 100-400mm lens that worked well on up close bird photos. It tracked the eyeballs of the birds, and gave some amazing shots that were pin sharp. I do however track customer reviews apart from listening to YouTube reviews, and I found that concerning. I picked several places to read those, but the main one was B&H Photo, since they sell a lot of equipment. There seems to be way too many people having issues with the R6, R6 MK II, and the R5 mirrorless cameras malfunctioning, over heating, with features that quit working. You should check them out for yourself, because it sounds like the quality control isn't there with the newer product. I believe I am going to wait a while and see how things play out before I spend the money. I have a lot of expensive EF glass that worked fine with the the adapter I also rented to try out, so I am kind of stuck with Canon. I can take great pictures with their tried and true DSLR's for now.

I remind you that in the cinema they used a 5D mk II for some films (127 hours, Iron Man 2, Black Swan) and it didn't have the capabilities of an R6 MK II in the slightest. Films are made by ideas and people, the rest is all mental bullshit.

Most companies I work for don’t want LOG footage. All these specs don’t matter. I shoot with an R5 but I know someone who books twice as many weddings with a bunch of EOS R’s shooting in 1080p.

Agree! I have enjoyed this camera and one of the few cameras I have bought that didn’t give me instant buyers regret. Great video, thanks!

I took picture of a big horn sheep and accidentally shot it in 1.6 crop mode which renders the image at 11 megapixels on my eos r and it turned out to be one of my best images of my trip to the Badlands.

The mark 2 does NOT have all-i? What the heck, even my 10 years old 6D has all-I.
Well that's enough reason NOT to buy it.
This video was useful.

Can You see any diference between IPB Light and ALL-I? Personally I don't.

Maybe you should title it in a different way. Instead you should title who is the R6 Mark II for. You made it seem like it was a bad camera.

i couldve gone for r5 but i went with this due to unlimited recording and less overheating issue, although r5 overheating is improved. now after some weeks im considering if the extra megapixel wouldve been good and the 4k 120p although ive never really needed 4k 120p. and i am not really a photographer. so overall im happy with this. but i wouldve benefited from the better screen and viewfinder of the r5. anyway maybe i would get the r5 later.

ALL-i codec should be a simple basic firmware update. IPB codec is just a HOG for the CPU esp. for PC users like me. Why don't canon Listen to their customer. I bought the R6 Mark II on launch day and I was extremely excited but no so much now after almost a year. Me too I won't recommend this to anyone. I regret buying R6 Mark II. Canon r u LISTENING. WTF
