Oh my god! You can hear that “jet thunder” on climb out. That’s one of those sounds almost never hear anymore. When I was a kid I used to wonder why every jet sounded like a thunderstorm after it took off. Later in life, I realized the unbelievable compression waves coming off those engines were bouncing around the landscape much like thunder. Engines are so quiet nowadays, that sound is almost nonexistent in the world of civil aviation. The only place I really hear it anymore is at my home airport PSM when a loud military airplane takes off.

These turbofan engines at full throttle from the outside sound like half turbofan and half turbojet engines from the front of the airplane during takeoff before the loud roar from the back.
