glad to see a review where a woman is involved. I saw the ads on Instagram and was compelled to buy one. I looked for reviews and most of them were done by men (nothing wrong with that!) but i wanted to hear from someone, as I myself, have never used a safety razor in my life and how it works for people who aren't guys, what the learning curve is like, how was the switch from using things like gilette, venus etc. (i think razors should be genderless like the company themselves have pointed it out that they do not put a gender tax on the razors), and how it works on people that don't need to shave their face, but are wanting to shave other parts of their body haha

I bought one of these a week ago and I'm loving it. After about 3 days I was asking myself why anyone ever switched to cartridge razors. Glad to see they're also a great product for women

I started seeing ads for this razor and it seemed too good to be true, having the benefits of safety razors and cartridge razors. Thanks for the review.

put the top of the henson in the palm of your hand with the blade receiving side facing up. Then drop the blade on it, (or lift it off by the ends -one finger on each end), put safety plate on top, screw in handle. But the whole time, keep the palm of your hand in the same position.

The disposable are so expensive because they're in that special spot between luxury item and essential item for price gouging

Great review, thank you! You both share a lot of helpful info. One of the things I like best is just the nice rapport you have together. A few useful details may add flavor & dimension for your viewers who are considering how to move beyond disposable & cartridge razor types. The Henson AL 13 is an amazing product for sure. It is possible for partners to start with one, so both can try if it works for their individual needs (providing of course, agreement about what color the first one should be is achievable!! 😄 ). Anyway, about safety concerns, the Henson is nice in that as long as you handle the blade always by the ends, the sides with the longer distance between them, your fingers are safe, and the shape of the cap makes this especially easy. The way the Henson tightens and opens is very user friendly. One of the reasons I am adding some helpful knowledge is because of the recyclability of the blades and also the benefit of getting out of the contemporary fad of multi-blade disposable designs which are expensive, wasteful AND cause far more blade contact with the skin than is needed. Most people who learn shaving well arrive to the single blade shaving per pass. This kind of DE double edge safety razor has two edges but only one is used per pass. Regular safety razors like the first two you tried involve a learning curve not everyone is interested to master. The Henson removes this issue. One of the most useful things to know {that some new commenters may attempt to disagree with but will be incorrect (there is a lot of confusion about this)} is that the MILD is best for most men, and women shavers too. The reason people get confused is because of differences in the language used around the industry. The design intent of the MILD is that it works best for all hair and minimizes blade exposure. Because people think, aggressiveness of blade is desirable, they think the MILD won't be sufficient. Henson Shaving has faced this complexity in customer comprehension which developed through user ideas well, but it is difficult to impossible to convey the right understanding of the engineering principles involved so they have to roll with some perspectives that are actually inaccurate. You have a little disagreement over single vs multiple pass shaving. There is a relevance to this for men on the face, that some women feel is relevant and others, like you Devonnie, don't. The standard shave pattern for a close shave is multiple passes starting with the grain, then from the side of grain and then against, with variations per skin and hair type. If a man wants to shave longer growth in one pass with no follow-up, then the Medium or possibly the Aggressive Henson versions may make sense, though it works out better to stay with the MILD and let additional passes be part of your methodology when useful.

Never hold the edge of the blade, always load or unload the blade, by grabbing the sides. Cartridges coast more to produce because of the plastic, Cartridge packages have tracking devices in them, well at least the BIGGEST Mass Marketed Brand.

Mass market cartridges cost a boat load 3-5$ per cartridge is getting obnoxious. The primary reason they cost a lot is because they hire professional athletes and celebrities to market them lol and they don't do that stuff for free.

The Amazon store brand Solimo is way much cheaper than Gillette's Proglide or Mach 3 and gives a really comfortable and close shave. I use the 5 blades ones.

Hey guys. Are the blades propietory like Gillette's and Schick's or any regular double edge razor blade can be used in it?

For the male, does the mild razor shave close enough on your face or do you recomend the medium?

I am going to help you out! As irritated as I became with this "review"; I have to take into consideration that you and your spouse lack knowledge of even the most basic principles of using a DE(Double Edge) SAFETY RAZOR although the man did correct you once-it's NOT A STRAIGHT RAZOR, it's a safety razor and is so called due to having a "Guard" on the base plate of the Top Cap of the razor which keeps the blade from adversely impacting the skin.

#1. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER EVER hold a razor blade on its Horizontal Edge! That is the cutting surface and it was sheer luck or divine intervention which spared you a serious slice on your fingers when you disassembled the Razor. The Part which holds the Blade is the Top Cap. It is composed of the Upper Plate and Base Plate. The holes/openings in the base plate are for drainage while shaving. When you take the top cap apart GRASP the blade by its ENDS. You will find unlike the edge of the blade the ENDS also called "Overhang" are NOT SHARP for that reason. Equally, NEVER RUN YOUR FINGERS ALONG THE EDGE OF A LOADED RAZOR; no matter how safe it seems.

#2. You and your spouse were grossly incorrect when you stated that the previous DE Safety Razor, which you displayed used "custom" or special blades! They absolutely DO NOT. The use the exact Double Edge razor blade you used in the Henson. Equally, the cutting angle of ANY safety razor IS NOT 45 Degrees. The shaving angle of a typical safety razor is approximately 30 Degrees. The simplest way to find and use it would be place the top cap of the razor against the face(or whatever is being shaved) and gently roll the head forward; you would instantly detect the blade without cutting yourself and then proceed to shave exactly in the same manner as with the Henson Razor.

#3. Your spouse was correct in his estimation that the head of the Henson Razor is designed in such as way as it is not necessary manually find the correct shaving angle. The said, it take less than 3 seconds to find it on either of the other two razors you displayed in the video.

#4. The Versions of the Hensen Razor ARE NOT THE SAME and I am not referring to the Titanium model. The Version you own, L13 is for the "MILD" version whereas the "MEDIUM" version exposes more of the razor blade's edge which means the shave would be considered a more efficient or aggressive. In plain English, the Mild version is for sensitive skin and the Medium for people less sensitive to razor irritation. The Titanium model, I believe, is designed to be the most aggressive/efficient as well as expense due to its material construction. And that is it for this critical critique of your review.
