I have just came back from Malaga, the train is far the best way to get in to the city, I used my UK debit card, no need to queue up for a ticket, also used it on the buses, very handy. Four stops to Malaga Centro which is also called Alameda, very easy to navigate.

I used my bank card to an unmanned station Los Boliches I thinks and got charged 360 + 360 plus 180 +180 . Never did get to the bottom of it . Also if you buy a paper ticket they charge 50c more per journey.

As of today 22.12.2024, you can’t buy a ticket if you don’t possess a renfe card which you can only get in the city. The machine no longer asks if you use renfe card or not assuming you use it.

You can just tap at the entry gate with a debit/credit card to bypass the queues.

I heard that AVLO has luggage limit and you need to purchase if you do have more luggage.

Way to much effort. No need to buy a ticket. Just use a NFC Credit od Debit Card to Tap in & Tap out at the gates.
