Yasuke: Story of the African Samurai in Japan

In our new animated historical documentary we will tell the story of the first foreign samurai in Japan, the man from Africa, they called Yasuke. He traveled to Japan with the Portuguese missionaries and played an interesting role in the Sengoku Jidai period and in the life of the daimyo Oda Nobunaga.

when Nobunaga committed seppuku and his men were captured by Mitsuhide's troops, Yasuke's life was spared on the grounds that he "wasn't a human", this was one of those rare cases when racism saved a black man's life.

There is no history evidence for saying that Yasuke was a Samurai.
1. He did not have a surname (Samurai is high in social class like lordship, they all have surname)
2. He had a small Katana (about 30 cm) from Nobunaga but not a standard Katana that Samurai used (about 60 cm)
From the above two points, historian more tend to say that Yasuke was not a Samurai.
