Your PHD comment was great. I have a friend that runs a business that was started by his father who is now semi-retired. He calls his dad the CIO. He "Comes in Occasionally".

I have no intention of buying a trailer or fifth wheel but your content is so honest and well spoken, I will subscribe.

I’ve owned two travel trailers and upgraded to a fifth wheel last year. I can give you a laundry list of why one is better than the other. The deciding factor for me was the mistake of asking my wife and kids to come “look” at a fifth wheel with me. I had no other choice after they saw the Eagle 29.5BHOK. So the answer to your question “Which one is better” ? Ask your wife and kids lol

I’m an RV hauler. You are spot-on in describing the differences in ‘towability’ between the units (TT vs 5th Wheel). And I’m using a 3500 SRW….and 1-ton pickup or no, I can tell the differences. One thing folks should consider is wind. You get into strong winds (like you are GOING to do in the Western and prairie states…..and Canada)…..the TT wants to sway, and the 5th-Wheel stays MUCH more stable. And yeah….I have a weight-distribution/anti-sway kit for the rear-tow TT. But you hit all the high points, and I hope the novices pay attention to what you just taught. Kudos.

Your sales team should have this video setup to play in the lobby as required viewing for new customers. Great info!

A 5th Wheel over a Travel Trailer, in short, is the Best for Me. I Don't Travel. I Live in a 5th wheel now, and have Never towed it. I've seen plenty of nice Travel Trailers, but for Me, the 5th Wheel has more room and is Best for Me. BTW Josh, that's is a Great way to approach a sell. Honesty. I almost was a Safety Manager in the Past, so I Respect getting to Know the customers and showing Safety features. Thanks.

Hi Josh! This is my first time listening to you, and watching your video on "trailer or fifth wheel". You are a true professional Josh! Your family must be very proud of the way you represent your family business. "Getting to know you better" applies to everything we do in life. It never turns out good if one is in a hurry (even in marriage or living together) and doesn't thoroughly investigate what they are getting themselves into. In public schools, this philosophy should be taught more, but it isn't. We are in south Florida but would like to buy a trailer or fifth wheel to travel around once in a while. My spouse prefers a fifth wheel (of course) but she is just admiring how beautiful they really are. An ancient philosopher once said, "A good reputation is better than any riches in the world". We sincerely wish you continued success, Josh! Joe & Myrta

Thank you for this honest take on RV purchasing! It’s so refreshing to hear the truth rather than the sales pitch.
We upgraded from a travel trailer to 5th wheel earlier this year and struggled to find info on my 1/2 tons ability.
Despite both dealers saying I’m fine towing a Cougar 29MBS with it, this video helped me understand it was not safe.
Upgraded to a 3/4 ton with ample payload and I barely even know the 5th wheel is behind me. 4500 miles this summer and the peace of mind can’t be underestimated.
Thanks from Northeastern Ontario.
Keep up the great work!

Been thinking about this for months. I think there are really 4 stages to RV'ing: under 23ft travel trailer for short weekend camping type events. Easy to stow, Easy to tow, Easy to buy and setup. But won't last very long, be upgradeable, or comfortable for longer trips or more than 2 people. A good sweet spot is 30ft Travel Trailers with Expedition or F150. A very good base to work from, let's you go nearly anywhere, relatively easy to get going with...definitely right path for those that just camp a few times a year. Next level up is 32-36FT Travel Trailers or Fifth Wheels. Flexible platform that can support a full time family, but better for those that camp 2-7 days/month. Tow with F350 SRW, short bed with 7.3 gas might work...but big learning curve balancing trailer weight and wdh. Lastly, if you are pretty much thinking if your trailer as your home for 5+yrs and frequent driving...go get that 40ft 5th wheel, but you are going to want f450 dually truck and will need to be careful with narrow lanes on winding mountain roads, finding big campsites, or backing in. On the other hand, you might actually get built in laundry machines and near full size appliances and bathrooms. If I can get through the storage limitations, 35ft travel trailer with long bed f350 srw is my choice. However, the most livable floorplans have limited payload and toyhauler designs get confusing.

I love the idea of a "Mom and Pop" shop because you guys are more people oriented. Not ram an RV down your throat kind of business. The more I watch your tidbits. The more I'm trusting you and your business. And that is the kind of business ide cross the country for

Excellent description of the differences between the 5th wheel and TT! I recommend anyone getting into camping research your channel first!

If Coldwater wasn't 1000 miles from me I would probably buy my next RV from you! Great videos and information!

Great video. Wish all RV dealerships were as honest. I started out with a travel trailer. Moved on to a fifth wheel and wouldn’t go back. Fifth wheel tows so much better. It overcomes all the cons in my book.

Thank you for the honesty, it truly is a rarity. I've had a dealer tell me that the Chevy Colorado that I was driving "could easily tow a 1/2 ton 5th wheel." I literally laughed as I got back in the Colorado and drove away. I've been pulling hay wagons for a few decades so I knew that there was no way that was a good idea. It's scary to think of how many people have listened and followed that kind of advice.
I tell everyone thinking about getting a RV to check out Josh the RV Nerd then when they're ready give his team a call. I know it's worked once. 😉

Very good video. We traveled 2500 miles to Haylett to get our RV. It was so worth it. I knew exactly what I was looking for although they are great and yes you should give them a call if you have questions. I did tons of research before I went and yet they still looked it over to see if it was “safe” to tow. I was within my numbers with margin to spare. I know this comment is getting long now but I do have to say if you are willing to have a 1 ton I couldn’t believe how much better a fifth wheel tows than a bumper pull. Even if I don’t travel that much it is worth it to me to have so much more peace of mind on the road.

I remember my uncle had a 5th wheel from the 90s that had a crawlspace style queen bed which he could tow with his half ton, it would be nice to see those mini fifth wheels make a comeback for those folks that want an easier towing rig but don't want to upgrade to a 3/4 or 1 ton truck.

I’ve owned three travel trailers and am in my third 5th wheel. For me, for my age (62) it’s still a 5er for me. We love the luxury, towing stability, and space. However, in the future when I can’t crawl in and out of the truck bed, etc, we’ll probably go to a class C. Great video as always Josh.

I'm not in the market for a 5th wheel or a huge trailer. I just watched to know the difference. We are kinda new. Got a 19ft wolf pup in 2019. Only got to take 3 trips before covid. Now, everything is booked or prices went up more than a hotel room. I discovered your channel by chance. I've learned a lot from watching you. I'm in Virginia. If I lived near you I would consider checking out your campers when we go to upgrade.

In my city people used to always have gooseneck trailers to show off their money. This year I have only noticed one fifth wheel around here. Everyone around here, traded in their fifth wheel trailers for brand new bumper pull campers. Most of these bumper pulls have slideouts and start out at $35, 000 in our area brand new.

Well stated and hit the nail on the head - too many dealerships just want the sale and are worried about losing it.
