In regards to staff/inmate ratio, at the state prison that I used to work at, we had an imate population of roughly 1, 500. At our lowest, my shift (Alpha Card night shift) had 12 people. If you take into account mandatory posts, this left 1 officer per yard (our facility had an upper and lower yard), which meant 1 officer had to watch over approx. 700 inmates. I left in early 2020 (roughly a month before C19 hit the system, dodged a proverbial bullet there) to preserve my mental health. I've heard it's gotten better since they got rid of the corrupt top brass and brought in a respectable Warden. I really hope it has, for the sake of my friends still there. As for me, I'm not going back.
