not a fan of the u87 either, i love my tf51 but that 251 still sounds better to me

TF51 actually sounds quite a bit better here, not sure what happened along the way processing wisem but the 251 is super harsh/sibilant in the high end and needs some major de-essing. Wish the comparison was longer and used the same vocal passage back to back to really put them head to head.

I'm also not the biggest u87 fan. There's so many other great mics in lower price ranges that are adequate .. Great job with the TF51. Sounds amazing btw. If I hadn't already bought quite a few mics I'd have my eye on it

Definitely can tell the difference, 251 has more body and much warmer but both sound good, about to grab the T51 myself

The ELAM sounds a lot more open in this comparison. The TF51 is indeed nice, would love to hear it through a more high end preamp. For the money the TF51 is a no brainer if you want anything close to the Elam sound.

absolutely different. 251 has real lush and powered highs as it shoud be.

I recorded with a U87 before not a fan at all needed quite a bit of equipment to make sound good enough. I knew right away there was a better mic for my voice tho

I can tell, but I own a 251 so my ability to out it's sound may be more than someone that doesn't own the mic and just using this video as a comparison. The 51 extends further in the lows and the 251 cuts them off smoother and gives the sound a fuller body to it. As far as the highs, I'd say those sound more similar with the 251 having more vintage warmth to it. The 51 is a pretty nice sounding mic imo. As far as price to performance, I may be a little more inclined to get something from Advanced Audio or if I were looking for a 251 sound, the Heiserman or Upton.

Low end difference, TF has alittle bit more low end.

And Elam 251 is more airy and smooth low end.
