On this date in Canadian history… In 1813, roughly eighteen hundred American soldiers landed at York, Ontario. The capital of Upper Canada, it would be sacked as the British forces garrisoning the town retreated as they were vastly outnumbered. The British and Canadian forces would retaliate for this, with the destruction of Newark, followed by the burning of Buffalo, and the burning of Washington.
