Luc Anselin's held the Waldo Tobler Lecture on March 15, 2023 after being selected as the 2022 Laureate of the Waldo Tobler GIScience Prize by the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

In this talk, Luc Anselin provides an overview of methods that have been suggested to tackle the problem of identifying local multivariate spatial clusters. He also introduces some creative ways in which traditional multivariate techniques can be spatialized to aid in the discovery of local clusters by exploiting the concept of a local neighbor match. The methods are illustrated using the GeoDa software in a comparative study based on data for socio-economic determinants of health observed in 791 Chicago census tracts.

Luc Anselin is the 2022 Waldo-Tobler GIScience Prize laureate for his outstanding and sustained contributions to the discipline worthy of inspiring young scientists in Geoinformatics or Geographic Information Science, and for having accomplished significant advances in research and education.
