COVID-19: Nottingham researchers use DNA sequencing to find 'first recorded coronavirus death in UK'

Researchers at the University of Nottingham believe they have identified the first confirmed coronavirus death in the UK

The 75-year-old woman known as ‘Patient 1’ tested positive for coronavirus in hospital on February 21st.

She died on march 3rd, two days before the UK announced its first official coronavirus casualty

The study, which is yet to be peer-reviewed, was born from work underway by the COVID-19 genomics UK consortium. A collaborative effort between Universities and research institutes to sequence and analyse the genetic code of different strains of coronavirus – thereby creating an in depth picture of the spread of the infection across the UK.

Help me out here. So on the 21st Feb we had the patient zero death. A month later we went into lock down.. and we had a huge peak of cases and deaths. Now we're back out of lock down and the government is busy playing wack a mole with spikes in local cases.. So if the first person died 21st Feb we can assume the virus was in the country for a week or two before hand.. So in 6 weeks this thing spread like crazy.. So why is it not spreading as much now? I know we have social distancing in place (not that a lot of people are following it) surely there is something that is being overlooked... It's said it's not seasonable but it died out the same time as the peak of winter flu did.. you'll still have cases of flu in the summer just not as many as winter.. so is it not possible this thing is going the same as winter flu with lower cases in the summer before a winter peak... it seems odd such a strong peak in 6 weeks then very few cases now.. because testing was poor back in March so you can assume if they were testing back in March the cases would have been in the millions...
