Everything mentioned in this video are reasons why Vermont is such a great place. Not for the cheap and faint of heart - it takes character to thrive here and you get what you pay for with your taxes. Want convenience? Live somewhere else. Want clean water, land, uncrowded roads, beautiful nature and great neighbors, then you’ll love it here.

Talk about exaggeration!!!...I've been visiting for Vermont for 34 years! In the rural area of Rochester as my uncle owns a cabin there, I've met the most NICEST people in Vermont! I cannot count how many times I've walked down the road and a random passing car who I have no clue ALWAYS WAVE and say hello! And I'm sure I look like a tourist to them! And some of the other stuff he mentions may be slightly true but he definitely exaggerated it quite a bit

I didn't pay too much attention to what he was saying... I kept getting distracted by the beautiful Vermont landscapes! Man do I miss it!

It is not advised to stay off trails during mud season because of slip & fall risk. It is to protect the trails. During mud season, the trails are soft and erode easily. Letting them dry out with out traffic on them keeps them in good shape for the other 10-11 months of the year.

My wifi in Vermont is regularly 500+ mbps. Wired, I regularly pull 750+ mbps. I have Comcast and use their equipment. Could probably do better with a higher end router.

Vermont's unemployment rate is currently 1.8%. Much lower than the rest of the country.

When he talks about mosquitos and flying pests, believe what he says. We had a cabin up north on lake Champlain and late afternoon/dusk they come for blood!! Nothing some long sleeves can't stop though.

So… at 0:41, is that the Little Moscow part of Burlington? Because I’m pretty sure that’s Russia. We don’t generally have graffiti in Cyrillic or live in Commie Blocks.

I love vermont ive lived here my whole but have traveled to many other states and i gotta say im not goin anywhere. You will not find a nicer more neighborly population anywhere. Also the hunger thing is bs weve had one of the lowest unemployment rate we were having labor shortages before covid. Not just mcjobs but real 45k a yr + which is pretty decent starting pay for high-school grads. Theirs may be some food insecurities but again with the neighborly population we take of eachother here hence the high taxes we dont ignore those that may have it harder for whatever reason than the rest of us. Compassion and charity a major part of our culture. So if youre a greedy selfish person please keep out. I wouldnt change anything about vermont. The politics portion is such crap nobody force's anyone into political discussion. Were a live and let live type of place and if that doesnt work for you stay away.

When I employed a professional license living in Vermont for over 10 years good paying jobs were few. Traveling over unplowed roads in the winter and unpaved roads in the spring was constant. I never had to have a 4 wheel drive till I moved to Vermont. And when the wash outs and floods came it took months to fix them.

1 minute in and all of the issues are super exaggerated! Mud season really is not NEAR as bad as this video says, and I've lived here 19 years. The video clips over the speaking make it look like everyone lives in a flooded field and all our towns our flooded... like seriously your shoes and socks will always be soaked? What a joke. 😂 You can live down a terribly maintained dirt road if you want but 95% of people in VT don't. Not sure what's exaggerated past 1:38 but come visit VT and ignore this click bait. 🙂

Edit past that: yes Vermont isn't diverse, yes Vermont has harsh winters but not everyone is snowed in all winter, in fact being "snowed in" doesn't happen that often to most Vermonters. And usually what that looks like is half a foot of snow and you need to wait a couple hours for the roads and your driveway to be cleared. No, "flatlanders" are not mistreated or denied entry except in very few, rare cases. Occasionally in Facebook Groups there's a rude hermit or 2 that lives in an area that's changed in one way or another like home prices going up etc and they don't like it so they take it out on innocent people who have the same right to live there as them. Blackflys can be bad for a bit around certain wet areas, same with mosquitoes but that seems to be the situation in any rural warm area where water is standing still. On the plus side, virtually no bugs half the year... Our roads potholes are not that bad for the most part, internet is exaggerated a bit but there is truth to a bunch of what was said there. Lots of exaggeration but underlying each is at least a dash of truth. Checkout my channel for more VT info. 😊

As a Californian, I had to laugh at the "expensive" average home cost and taxes. The median home cost here is $600, 000 and is expected to jump to $800, 00 next year (2022). Also, the wages for my job (Accountant) in Vermont seems to be about the same as Sacramento (where I live).

Whoa, Denny Downer.
I was there in early April, and I didn't find mud to be much of a problem. No worse than anywhere else with 4 seasons. He forgot to mention the gorgeous, sweeping views of Lake Champlain. Sounds like he's trying to talk people out of moving there. Nice try.

"For mild personalities, Vermont may not be for you". Couldn't agree more. Florida would be a much better fit for mild personalities.

Some parts of Vermont will have “winter” for six months, like higher elevations and the far northern tier. But I was in WRJ along the CT river last month right before thanksgiving and it was cool but not winter. I suspect for many places in Vermont winter is December thru March. And away from rural areas with dirt roads, as long as roads and travel / walking areas are paved the mud can’t be that bad.

Economic issues are a different matter and I would move to VT without employment due to higher costs of living. But not getting stuck in traffic and having clean air to breathe makev up for it.

And I don’t mind at all supporting local business instead of Walmart. Or paying taxes so people are taken care of and polluting industries aren’t needed to support the economy at the cost of the environment. Access to healthcare is a concern so people like me and my wife in our 60s would pick a place with better access. For younger people, a smaller town might be okay. At least even rural schools are good in VT. Not many rural locales can say that.

Vermont is a unicorn among the states so some stats matter and some don’t. It may not be a place to get rich or climb that corporate ladder, but for a safe and balanced life away from the crowds while not dumbing it down, VT is it for me.
