Yes, Britain still has a class system. How do you explain Boris as PM? If he was a regular bloke there is no way he would be where he is today.

Ah, yes. Class. Very difficult to define .... but very easy to recognise and David Starkey is full of it.

I find birds of a feather flock together, especially as we get older. In this country the class system was much more open, particularly before the comprehensive education system shut down working class access to higher education. We don't even have proper higher education anymore, but that's a whole other issue.

Traditionally the British educated upper middle-class was vitally important for at least five things:

1/ Allowing the cream to rise to the surface.
2/ Deciding what was right or morally acceptable for society.
3/ Being moral exemplars encouraging the lower classes in how to behave.
4/ Preserving higher Western culture: classical music, opera, drama.
5/ Fermenting culture and intellect.

These days ordinary people tend to look up to flash cars, Rolex watches and big houses.

Why do you keep cutting these video clips short? He was getting to his point and you cut him off.

Australia is very stratified.... as a 50 year old I'm still asked about which private school I went to

The idea that someone living in Kensington is better than someone living in Hackney because they know how to identify a fish knife properly and ride a horse is ridiculous.

Lived in Australia for 11 years, loved it. However, my work clothes, see profile photo, and regular wear, this reception was starkly different. Snobbery, is in our DNA, every country has it.

Wonder what the BBC thinks? They all went to public schools and then Oxbridge.
