Japan, build their high-speed rail starting in 1964 and now it’s over 1800 miles of rail. I wonder if Walt Disney really thought the monorail was the future

Fantastic idea... fund a tunnel in SF instead of the one in Gilroy that will actually connect the rest of the system... great thinking everyone!

I'm all for CAHSR but maybe the funds would have be better spent at this point making sure the Central Valley section connected to Gilroy. Even an imperfect but unified system linking Bakersfield to the CalTrain corridor should be top priority.

Ed Lee and his admin purposely delayed project because he wanted to help his mission bay developer cronies by attempting to swing the tunnel by the new arena. BTW, when this project was EIR cleared 10+ years ago, it was only 1.5-1.9 billion dollars. See what happens when you delay projects, they become more expensive and lor and behold, they're basically going with the EIR cleared alignment that was approved so many years ago lol.

If only they kept funding projects like these instead of sending it to damn Ukraine and Israel 😒😒

I'm not really getting why they are so shy to build the tunnel through Pacheco Pass. Actually that's what CAHSR needs. The undergroud station in San Fransisco is nice to have, but if funding is limited then the current station will do for sure. Without a connection from SF to the Valley the whole project is simply a waste of money. And what is more eventually they have to come up with a plan how to get to Los Angeles. If they have no idea, they should team up with Brightline (what they should do anyway imho, because those guys know their sh... how to build on time and on budget) A high-speed line from Bakersfield to Madera only? That would be like building a subway for New York just on Staten Island and leave 8 million New Yorkes with horse carriages

This is a two mile link. The estimate is it will cost $8 BILLION. At $4 billion per mile, it is the most expensive piece of track (in $ per mile) in world history. "More money" just means higher salaries/benefits/pensions for unionized construction workers and unionized civil servants. This is a jobs program -- any transportation that comes from it is incidental to its reason to exist.

In germany 7 Billion $ would be an average price for a Highscores rail line

Why is this not finished. 7 years 3.4 bulid it. Wow I see curves in this tunnel in SF this means loud screecing rails and slow travels in and out of the super expensive station dream.

Started this project almost 30 years ago, 11 billion dollars and not a single inch of it is running yet? That’s efficiency…Better numbers than 24 billion in 5 years in homelessness. But Yes let’s keep giving them Money. How do I get my hat into this high speed rail or fighting homelessness?
