Hiltermann tells host Steve Clemons that Israel’s military believes Hamas has been weakened enough for now, while its politicians argue that the war should be open-ended, allowing for a resumption after Israeli captives are released.

Please get your terminology right as would clear up the current confusion. 1] Ceasefire proper = end of hostilites and withdrawal of IDF from Gaza. 2] Pause = just a pause where hostilites might be renewed. Stop mixing them up by talking about a ceasefire as if it could be a pause.
