The high price and somewhat volatile nature of CRTs in general have really kept me out of the PVMs and BVMs. I am investing instead in consumer CRTs and trying to teach myself how to calibrate and repair them. I would be heart broken if I spent 500+ dollars on a really nice monitor only for it to break and degrade a short time later, or worse yet arrive in sub optimal condition.

Selling a PVM-20L2MD. Manufactured in 2005! Great picture quality, rock solid scan lines (no jitter), RGB input, and a built in speaker. Very open to negotiating price!

About a month ago, my uncle had a video monitor in his basement. I plugged it in and it worked, though I had to buy BNC adapters to be able to see something.
He planned on throwing it away and I asked if I can keep it, so he gave to me for free. (Not everyone has a Sony PVM these days, y'know... Oh well 🙂)
It's an NEC auto color monitor from September 1987, model PM-1971A. It has a VIDEO 2 and MONO headphone jack on the front, an I/O for VIDEO 1 on the back, a VTR input, an external speaker output, and a MONITOR output, all of which use composite video and stereo sound.
I would like to find one with s-video inputs but needless to say, these auto color monitors are EXTREMELY hard to find, even online... 😅
Thankfully, it works just fine. The geometry looks great, and the video and sound quality are pretty good given the monitor's age 👍☺

Good video. Your supply/demand labels are backwards. :)

Pvm bvm prices are crazy, its good you tell people that 99% of those monitors are damaged and needs repair, i have 2 of them. Its also good to mention that there are no rtv service who will take one to repair so you are on your own.

My advise to everyone is just get crt pc monitor and pc with emulator( you can turn on scanlines there and looks gorgeos) and wait to get pvm or bvm at normal price, its totally not worth to go crazy really.

If you're in the UK, BBList is a good place to look. I got my 20G1E there.

I highly suggest staying away from looking online or buying within the community. You will pay a retro tax going either route. Look locally. Places still have these. Call or email local businesses. I recently picked up 6 monitors for free doing this. I may have been lucky but it honestly just took an hour or two of emailing around my area. I also made a few connections by doing so. I found a retiring film editor with a ton of these monitors. He wasn't ready to get rid of them all but we traded info for when he is ready. I also connected with a local broadcast engineer at one of my local TV stations. They are slowly clearing out for relocation. As they clear out their monitors he will contact me. The benefits of putting in a little effort out weigh the convenience of paying way over actual value online. These are old, used, obsolete monitors. There is no reason to pay hundreds of dollars for them.

Hi Steve, last time i bought this BVM D14H5E for a 100 $ and i must say that i am absolutly amazed how crystal clear is image on the screen, but as always are little problem's whith geometry. On left side of the screen is a horizontal distortion, not a big deel but very frustrating when the image is scrolling from left to right or viceversa. I send few mails to Savon-Pat and he told me that the distortion is caused by a bad cap's on the deflection board.
What do You think ?

Thank you for the video. What I wonder is, are more tv lines always better? I read somewhere the higher the tv line count is, the more pronounced the 50/60Hz flickering will be noticeable. Is that right?

If you live in the suburbs or near a major city, google "post production near me", contact those places with an email or phone call and see what comes up.
