It is an utterly inconceivable amount of money, our 6 Collins class subs cost a total of $5 billion for the lot. This is purely about going to war with China, let no one tell you otherwise. Nuclear subs are particularly bad in shallow Australian coastal waters where they are much easier to spot than diesel subs, its one of the actual military reasons we never switched. The advantage of nuclear subs over diesel is basically range + payload capacity. But if we're defending Australia diesel range is just fine, you only need nuclear range if you're planning on fighting in the South China Sea.

Add to this our submariner force, Collins class subs have a crew of about 40 and we only have enough qualified submariners to put 2 of our 6 Collins to sea at any one time. Know what the crew of a Virginia is? 130-140, we don't even have enough crew to put a single sub out to sea. Let's not even touch all the repair & supply issues with these things. Unbelievable.

If you look into Cabinet documents from the 50s and 60s, our leaders were FAR more willing to put our interest before that of the US or UK.

That's in the context of the Cold War and a genuine belief in the 'domino theory'. Yes, we sent troops to Vietnam but they carried rifles and drove tanks considered to be the best, not just what we were told we must have.

According to constitutional expert and Prof Emeritus Anne Twomey (via her brilliant and highly educational YT channel The Constitutional Clarion), the Australian Fed Govt has never won a civil litigation case on nuclear waste disposal, raised against it by the Aussie public.

Now, thanks to that "worst ever deal" by ScomAlbo, Australia has "agreed" to take the USA's nuclear waste on top of our own, wtf???!!

Literally overriding everything the Australian public has fought so hard for on that front, namely our own ecological and public safety from such *long-term* ultra-hazardous & dangerously indestructible nuclear waste and protection from highly sus and unreliable disposal/storage scams, er "schemes", which risk both our environment and human health.

It looks like Scumbo has utterly (and likely legally) SHAFTED the Aussie public yet again, WITH Albo's consent and help!

This is something about which sheer rage should be the expression of choice, not humor. If these rectals could pull out of the deal with France (at a cost), is there no way to pull out of this flushing of public money, national independence and integrity? How much more despairing will I get over the mismanagement of this country? Probably much much more, as the alternatives are mirror images smiling smugly at each other.
