How to identify the ever-so-popular Hemi and Non-Hemi variations of the 6.5hp 212cc Predator Engines

I just purchased a 212 with model # 69730 and it is actually a hemi. I’m super confused now and the store personnel have no clue. On the box it even has the picture with the hemi head valve cover (cast rectangle not shiney octagon) and the model number of 69730. Maybe I got a screw up or some sort of hybrid, but I’d think the box would show the 60636 and not the 69730. I can email pics if interested because I’m trying to figure out what’s actually going on here

Literally purchased 69730 even has it on the box as well as on the flywheel cover yet the head is a hemi. I'm confused on how that is.

Just bought a new predator! Wanted the hemi, they only had the non hemi… turns out somehow the non hemi box had the hemi engine in it! Was wicked excited!

I just purchased two Hemi Predators while on sale, each with a part # of 69730, so they must have recently changed the part number(?). Even the pictures on the outside of the boxes are correct for a Hemi engine; (decals, muffler, air filter and carb cover housing). Every other Hemi I had purchased in the past had a part # of 60363. Fortunately, if you look inside one of the two hand-hold openings, one will be directly above the valve cover, making it easy to determine which engine it is without actually opening the box, regardless of the part numbers or pictures.

I bought one with 69730 on the box today and got it home and it had the hemi engine in the box so I guess the only true way to tell what your getting is to open the box and look

The non hemi is easier to modify, and has more parts available, where as the hemi requires a technical background in order to modify the head/valve seats. The Hemi you have to keep the same rocker arms, cant upgrade. The non hemi can only be upgraded to 26 lb valve springs, hemi can go higher.

Caution-this is no longer true. I Just purchased a 69730 and it was a Hemi. The best way to tell is to look at the valve cover: Hemi is rounded and cast, non-Hemi is octagonal and stamped

I bought the model 69730 written on package however it has the cast aluminum valve cover of the Hemi, so how do you know without tearing the motor down?

The 69730... Can’t get this engine at any harbor freight right now within 60 miles of my location they are sold out also 2 week wait to get them online.

I got the HEMI!!! They had none left on the floor so I asked the guy. He came out the back room with a 60363.

Well to bad I didn't see this video before I purchased my Predator 212 I didn't know there was a difference and I think I bought non hemi, only good thing is I've never used it.
