I had a rope wrap around my finger and I pulled my finger out instinctively … the tip was lagged. Long story short: No Orthopedic Doctor around here in Flint, Michigan had CUSTOM SPLINTS like the Dr prescribed. They had splints alright but I had those same ones I got from Temu. I thought custom meant, made to fit. These plastic hyper extended tip splints were all they had so I snipped out the top because I couldn’t wear anything on top because it hurt there REAL BAD! So I taped it around my knuckle folds making sure I could move that second knuckle.
My poor finger got so red and irritated from the tape.
I basically customized my own splint with YouTube recommendations. Today is 10 weeks in and my finger has 10% lag. Dr said it won’t get 100% normal. Makes me mad that there’s no Orthopedic Dr that seems to understand mallet finger around here in Flint, Michigan. I doctored myself!!!! I was mad about it too. Dr Sarmast told me to calm down. He sent me on a wild goose chase for a custom splint. Stupid!!! I’m still in pain but he said the bony mallet has healed. I’m still reaching out for information. I faithfully wore my own device for 8 weeks.

I'm a medical massage therapist and have this from a fall with chipped bone on top at the tendon. It's been 7 wks and the finger never straightened out with splint. I can't find any info whether it's safe for me to work. I started back yesterday...

Hi. I was splinted for 12 weeks then splint went off and didnt need to wear it again. After splint was off for 2-3 days i began to know that the finger was droopy. The therapist checked out my mallet finger and tells me i have a 8 degree lag but then says my tendon is healed enough to begin finger exercises. He says my finger in the joint is stiff because of splinting in that position for very long time. But my finger when coming out of the splint was completely straight. But when i try to straighten it i am unable to straighten the fingertip does this mean my finger didnt healed properly? Or is it due to stiffness of DIPJ thst is preventing me from straightening it??? He also says dont be afraid to move and try best to bend or get it in a fist and that my bones will break first before my tendon will. 😂 Im just worried i dint have active extension on the tip of my index finger.
