DeSantis must ‘out Trump’ former president to win primaries

Curtin University political analyst Joe Siracusa discusses what Florida Governor Ron DeSantis must do to win the Republican primaries against former president Donald Trump.

“He has to out Trump, Trump,” Mr Siracusa told Sky News Australia.

“He’s pretty much about common sense.”

You have got two complete different styles of politicians in Trump and De Santis.

1. De Santis is your typical professional politician - he is a former military, Judge Advocate General lawyer. He is whip smart. And a lawyer. Your typical politician.

2. Trump is a brassy New York personality, that in your face - half smart comments. Trump cut his teeth on construction sites that's where Trump learnt trade in the real estate game. He knows how to talk to and like the ordinary man. Trump has that real estate development man tone - get out of my way, and I will do it for you.

3. That's what is going to be the telling factor.

4. Not who seems the most qualified.

5. IT IS THE ONE - VOTERS CAN UNDERSTAND. And Trump beat 16 other Republicans in 2016 - who were professional politicians, and he beat Hillary Clinton. So - the secret sauce - is who sounds like the man in the street - carries the day.

6. De Santis has to sound more like the person on the street - if he wants to be the one to ask America to vote for him to be their President.

Otherwise the 2024 U.S. President Election, is going to be a rerun of 2020.
