something a lot of people miss is actually madara’s reaction to nejis sacrifice, if you play close attention to the manga or anime, when it pans over to madara he seems slightly disheveled, and the way he slightly tilts his head and closes his eyes a bit shows he felt some sort of emotion when neji sacrificed himself to save naruto and the future of the shinobi world, there is a reason madaras reaction was shown, he is a broken character with some sadistic traits, but in a world where children kill and are killed, especially during the warring states period of course he’s bound to think a certain way. but his body language shows a bit of contemplation and maybe even some pity or remorse. even obito wasn’t really shown to have much of a reaction at all, it’s as if madara could relate too well with what he was seeing, which is why he didn’t make a smart remark like he usually does during these situations. further proof is, once he realized he was wrong after the battle with kaguya and he’s disintegrating, he actually shows he still had a heart in the end. goes to show, even though characters do messed up things, and that you should root for the protagonist, there is always something else going on deep inside the villains head.
